kamb, I had this same question a few days ago. Here's what I dig up so far. It could be true/false/a bit of both.

It is about ego and money. Mr. Farmajo has nothing to do with it but he is in the crossfire apparently. This feud started in Djbouti right after Sharif was inaugurated and PM selection was under way. They say Sheik Sharif did not honor power sharing agreement by not consulting Darods who had stake in Somalia's political landscape. Instead he went along with the UNDP who brought their man from outside of the country. Then Omar surrounded himself with childhood friends forgetting the fact that he represented one group in the 4.5 system. According to one Darod member of the parliament, the first time Omar talked to Darod reps in Mogadishu was when he was cornered in the fight with Mr. Sharif. He met with them and said what should I do, I need your help and I promise to take your advice. After the meeting he was told to wait their decision for a few hours. That same evening they told him to resign and leave the country. His best buddies could do nothing for him. Plan wanted to be represented in the federal system before. Now it wants to discredit Mr. Sharif altogether. Who is gonna win? up in the air!

By the way everyone in Puntland was cheering for ina Siad Bare the nite of the election. He was beat because sharif was given 250 exra votes by the western powers. Puntland has trust issues with Sheikh Sharif, he once wanted to rule Garowe by invasion in the name of Islamic Courts. His men were stopped outside of Galkacyo. The popular opinion around here is that he won't hesitate to do it again if such opportunity comes around. What I can tell you is that Sheik Sharif is not popular in this part of the country. They remember him and killing machines just outside of Galkacyo.

Why now? There was a preplanned international meeting in Djbouti. Sharif told organizers he won't show up if Faroole is going to be there.
