Destination for Somalia's Frankincense and Myrrh?

Post by udun »

Does any one know where the Frankincense and myrrh that are taken out of Somalia end up? All I know is Somalis take it to the middle eastern countries and from that point we have no idea these Somali products end up? I have seen some claiming that those Middle Eastern businessmen are taking it to Europe; however, I have yet to see any reports about it.

I am also curious about the end products that originate from Frankincense and myrrh after they are taken to the final manufacuring destinations. Please share if you do know these final products that are made from these products.

Ahmed,

I don't blame them if they are taking out of the country and trying to make a living out of that export. Remember, they are not exporting the trees but actually these products which are coming out of the trees. We still have the trees, so we are noty loosing much in my view. We just need to get savvy on the business side.

Gemini,

Do we know what are the end product that comes out of these exports after they end up in far east Asia? I have heard it also ends up in France and Germany. I think we are in the time that the Somalis should know the final recepients of these products, so we can short of the middlemen who have taken advantage of us for centuries if not millenia.

Ahmed, the trees that we are discussing in this thread is Frankincense and Myrrh trees. The trees that recieved majority of the charcoal cutting and burning are the Acacia trees.
