Absolute power corrupts, absolutely. The regime should be split into two eras, the pre-Ogaden war era and the post-ogaden war era. Prior the the ogaden war, the regime was doing great it had policies that greatly improved the lives of an average Somali, literacy programs, education reform and a blossoming economy. many Somalis remember this era as the golden age. Scholars were content, tribalism was de-emphasized, the average people were content and corruption was minimal.

Post-Ogaden war era, drained the regime financially, it was dependent on the IMF and the World Bank for loans with strings attached of course. It was a troubling time for somalia in terms of foreign policy when its long ally, the Soviet Union switched its support to the regime's arch nemesis Ethiopia. Somalis then started to witness a complete change, where civilians were arbitraily arrested. the regime started favouring certain tribes and alienated the others, which was disheartning for the average somali, things starting goign downhill for the regime and many dissidents were arrested or even killed.

Was Mohamad Farah Aidiid, the man who was arrested by his own country, psychologcally scarred by the torture he received? Was he angry that he was considered a second class citizen? The full blame shouldn't be on Mr. Aidiid as he was simply unleashing his fury after years of mistreatment he was a product of hate.
