Re: Ethiopian music is better than Somali music
Yes definatley somali music sucks, it is really really bad..
I was always embarrassed and used to be ashamed that i didnt like somali music, from an early age i was not attracted to it..
The only stuff i found acceptable were the old stuff from the 70's and qarami , and thats because of the lyrics.
musically somali music has been stuck in some time warp, and then mutated to some strange version of reggea and god knows what.. and i hate that keyboard stuff, they over do it..
whenever i listen to new somali music i keep thinking about how the production needs improvement, how i can improve that beat here and there, tweek that sound a little bit..
I dont understand Ethiopian langauges but i did enjoy some of their stuff, i found it fresh.
now my tastes are eclectic, i dont care what the music is or where it comes from as long as my ears like it..
hiphop, Rnb, all forms of Electronica, all forms of rock, from soft pop rock to something heavier, Jazz, funk
even classical, i like shostakovich....
i dont care where it comes from, if a green martian lands and produces good music i will like it..

bareento wrote:Voltage, I said old school Amharic music, not necessarly old music....hinestly "modern" amharic music if not for few sucks.
Its hyped up reggae in Merkato sausage.
Oromo is diverse and do not necessarly sound the same foreigners.
I myself am mostly attracted to Harerge and Wallo music.
Bareento, Nothing can beat the old style music of AduuBirra and AfranQallo Bands.
Mahmud sh. Bookhee, Yoins Abdullahi, Abdi Buuh, Abdi Qophee, Ali Shabbo, Ali Birra etc etc...
These guys had the best Oromo Music. All the New Oromo Music is alright compared to those old school singers.
How could you like Amharic music at all? Their language sounds like some jiberish Arabic sounding language with a lot of ISH in it, and their old music is all garbage period. Wallo music ain't as good as you make it sound, for some reason i find it somewhat annoying. Harargee and Borana music are good entertainers!

Re: Ethiopian music is better than Somali music
Qoraxeey, no but a first cousin of my mom's is married to an Amharic woman so I have half Amhara cousins.
The reality is their music is the best in the Horn.
Diree, Amharic doesn't sound Arabic at all. Tigrinya sounds very Semitic and even a dialect of Arabic, but Amharic I can't place it. I don't know what language family I would classify it by sound. However, when sung it is a beautiful language.

Waa markaan kula yaabi jiray. How do you know amharic music is better than somali music, when you cannot even understand the amharic language to begin with.Voltage wrote:and Amharic music is the best in the Horn beating Somali, Oromo, and Tigrinya. Agree?
