Late last year, there was a fundraising for Dr. Hawa Abdi at my school, attended by doctors, healthcare adminstrators and a few Somali community members including a die-hard Somalilander. After Dr. Hawa Abdi finished her presentation about her hospital in Af-gooye and all her work, the Somalilander to the dismay & disbelief of everyone also got on stage and showed off Dr. Edna Adan's hospital in Hargeisa as though this was some sort of a contest. For those of you who don't know Dr. Hawa Abdi, she's been running a hospital and camp out of her own property in Af-gooye for almost 20 years, mostly tending to women and children. She's also one of the few humanitarians left in Somalia.

The fundraising was to help her refurbish her compound that was ransacked and looted by Xisbul Islaam thugs in May of last year. But, leave it to someone dying of hate to try and fuck it up. The school adminstrators didn't even know what to make of it, blank stares all across the room. Embarrassing shit.
