It seems all the time that America's understanding of cultures is just so base and rudimentary. Everywhere I go whether it was a Professor in College or @ Work, I'd have the same cadaan come up to Me "Kayfahaluka" and start talking Arabic. Now granted I do admit My name might be a Arabic name in origin, but still it seems that Americans just see a name, the fact that You're Muslim and just assume You're Arab and it gets annoying explaining that Yes We're Muslims and No We're not Arab. Infact I've went as far as to play dumb and be like I don't know what language You're speaking to make them feel stupid but I just don't want them to get the impression that I'm just some inferiority complex, paranoid gump who's "embarassed of His culture". Sometimes they'll poke jokes about Arabs and I'll laugh along and they're shocked they think I'm "laughing @ my own kind". The problem with these idiots is if they don't know something they'll try to act smart and assume. Its like Me, I admit I cannot tell the difference between a cambodian and a vietnamise or a chinese and a korean but I will not "assume" and try to be intellectual by speaking Mandiran to a Korean. Also this does hurt Me a lot because I feel like a Religion of a billion and a half people from Eastern Europe to East Asia is being affixiated to one ethnic group (Arabs) that is 18% of the population. Now I have absolutely nothing against Arabs (Kuwi Muslimiinta ah) but this takes away and diminishes from the amazing cross continental cultural diversity of the Muslim World and its just not fair to the dozens of other cultures represented in our faith.

I actually give Arabs a pass for making that assumption. Somalia being a member of the Arab League, when kids in Arab Countries are taught geography Somalia is always shaded with the Arab Countries. I can see how they would think Somalis speak Arabic because they are in the Arab League.Funny thing is they look @ Eritreans/Ethiopians who speak semetic languages as non arabs while they look @ Somalis who's language is much further from Arabic as Arabs
