Torture
I'm lobbying on Capitol Hill tomorrow on behalf of torture survivors (alot from the Horn of Africa)
So when I meet my Senator, I'm not sure where to start on this... You guys got tips? I know his background on the issue, I just am trying to figure out a good way to open my presentation

Do you know specifically the people you're campaigning on behalf of or is it more general?

Just provide them cakes
Re: Torture
There's a Somali women's torture survivor program here that is funded by the DHHS (Department of Health and Human Service). Under torture falls sexual violence and rape, not just physical torture alone. Torture is vast, you need to be specific. Most of the victims from the civil war were minority clans. The program here provides the women with counseling and therapy, skill learning and re-adjustment, etc. Its not limited to Somalis, but for refugees and immigrants in general. Be specific and be precise. FGM is also a form of torture according to the U.N. Select an area you need to focus on.
