Random Question.

Post by Methylamine »

I was just thinking, is it considered haram to buy fake goods like clothes off chinese suppliers on the internet and then sell it to people for market value? I have a couple reliable sites that sell clothes for outrageously cheap prices but something in me says that selling it to idiots for much higher is wrong. Care to discuss?

I remember hearing that there is a prescribed limit. You are not allowed to charge more than a certain percentage for a profit though I am not certain what that number is.

But for your situation, yes it is wrong. Why? You are charging people full price for knock-offs which is ripping people off and that is a pretty black and white scenario no?

@BV - Jazakallah for your advice, really helped :)

@Xaski - Name-brand is the whole reason why clothes are marked up. If you go tell people that the clothes are fake and expect them to pay regular price for it, how many people will buy from you

Nevertheless thanks guys, I had a feeling it would be haram if I felt that it was unethical. Oh well, another get rich scheme scrapped :P

Xaski I dont know it's something random I remember hearing. I would ask a sheikh if it was pertinent but it made sense to me which is probably why it stuck.

Lol @ the fatwas.

Only input I have is the benefit of knock offs to the fashion industry. Knock offs force designers to constantly rethink and innovate on their works. The whole discussion on patenting styles is interesting.
