How long did it take?
yes i paid. there are a lot of private schools there that teach classical arabic.. Famous ones are Fajr center,Qurtaba... They have their own websites.. I hear now there are much more arabic centers now than when i was there and their supposed to be cheaper.. but the living cost is much higher now than when i was there.. Also you can get a private teacher it will cost you more or you can just attend a class which is okay because most classes have ten people max.

It all depends what your aim is.. If you want enough to understand lectures than you can gain that in Canada but if you really want to be fluent in arabic than you have to live among arabs for a bit at least.. Depending on how hard you work you can start speaking a little and understand in 6months.. One year you will be ok and so forth..

I was there by myself also but this was way back.. I had roommates also, spend about $200 a month and i lived like a king.. But now i hear things are way more expensive but wouldnt know the exact amount you would need.. Depends on where you want to live in egypt.. Most somali families from the west who live in egypt now live in expensive area that has a private mall lol... but if you live in the cheaper parts of Cairo maybe $400 a month... Try to talk to the brothers who have been there recently or the ones who have family there...90% of taxi drivers have their kids and wife in egypt somewhere lol... You can wait a year or so just to see how things turn out in egypt.

Yeah dont go to Yemen at the moment :|

Like the Muslim brotherhood in Egypt broke up into two groups, so too did Somalia's Akhwaan. There is the Muslim brotherhood group led by Ayman Al-Zawahiri, these guys are militant and uncompromising (they are now part of Al Qaeda). In Somalia they were the Al Itihad and the current Hisbul Islam (now part of Al Shabaab). Then there is the second Muslim brotherhood group which is what we consider Muslim Brotherhood today and this group put down militancy and while having the same objectives as the other group, choose to accept democracy and non-violent systems and work within it to advance Islamist goals. Their counterpart in Somalia is Al Islah (Abdiqasim Salad Hassan was the most high profile Somali leader of this group).

Doin a bunch of activities in Somalia is your dream career.... :?
How are you doing in regards to education? have you begun University level education? apprenticeships? You have a great opportunity to do so in the west, or you can apply to become a student at Medina University and that way enhance your knowledge in the deen.
Your young, dont waste your age and have no regrets.
