The socialist revolution had not happened if not the Somali people had supported it, thus there was legitimacy behind the government leaders. Democracy means popular participation, and ensuring equality between men and women in 1975, the working class got economic equality with the elites, discrimination of minority clans was forbidden and they were given equal rights with other citizens, free education for all children meant that everyone in society regardless of their economic background had the same opportunities. Democracy is not about to vote or meaningless parties but about genuine popular participation of the country's devolopment and that was secured by the october revolution.
