Kids usually imitate what they see and it doesn't help that this is all they've seen since they were infants.

The fault lies with the Somali merchants who bring these toys to the city instead of bringing healthier options that encourage positive ambitions & cognitive development.

We are a nation plagued by greed and ignorance.

Boys always play with such toys wherever they are. I played with guns as a child and I grew up in Europe.

Beenaale - Toy guns aren't part of a natural childhood fantasy, its an adult, actually a male adult manifestation. Furthermore, we aren't just talking anywhere in this case, this is Muqdisho which has seen more than its share of suffering caused by guns. Of course boys will be boys & such, but its neither healthy nor normal for scores of boys across the city to chase each other down with toy guns, ducking & dodging pretend bullets on a regular basis - when that is their daily reality. Its like telling these children that the guns & daily shootings they witness everyday is fine, its a way of condoning such violence, rather than shunning it. Whatever happened to toy cars? Difference between toy guns and real guns is the ability for children to differentiate between fact & fiction, which was easy for you to do since you weren't surrounded by violence everyday, but these kids do not have that luxury.

Wars or no wars, boys will be boys and boys will always love guns.

one of my first incidents with the cops was removing the red cap from my toy gun and punking the neighbors 8-)
