the khateeb was somali btw...As'salamou Al'aykom,
On Friday 9/16 a student khateeb delivered the khutbah at Cole Fieldhouse on the topic of personal struggle towards the pleasure of Allah (swt). Among the topics he spoke about was hijab and its importance. We understand that although he had good intentions, his method of addressing the sensitive topic was a bit harsh. Also, such delicate subject matter would have been better addressed in a more appropriate setting and in a different way. The MSA would like to sincerely apologize to anyone who felt hurt or upset by what was said. Our goal at the Muslim Students' Association is to bring people together to worship Allah (swt). We would like to extend a gesture of love and inclusion towards all Muslims and provide a place that fosters our spiritual development. We understand that everyone comes from different backgrounds and simply has different circumstances. It is important for us to come together and help each other better understand our faith and learn to love Allah (swt).
In the future, we plan to use more discretion when selecting student khateebs and plan to require approval of their topics and speaking points in advance. Hopefully this will allow us to offer khutbas that serve more as spiritual reminders, leave us with the motivation to do good and inspire us to come closer to Allah (swt). We ask everyone who was hurt to find it in their hearts to look past the occurrence and forgive our dear brother, for he indeed had the best of intentions and forgiveness is of the practices of our Prophet (saw)
Jazakum Allahu Khair
As'salamou Al'aykom

If the letter says he was talking about the hijab and that his method of handling the subject was harsh and inappropriate, than he probably publicly insulted and embarrassed sisters.
If one attacks a muslim woman who is attending a khutbah to be closer to Allah swt and wants to follow the right path, he deserves to be forbidden to speak ever again because he has shown he has caqli caruur.
Too many low IQ, emotional Muslims who think they're ayatollahs. It's a problem in our community. Allah karim.

What she got offended for. He told the wearing Hijab is from Allah and not the community. He informed them how good to wear hijaab.

I wanna know what he say that deserved an email apology, my guess is he probably degraded the non-hijabi sisters in his khutbah but still....

I guess we wont know what he said. But generally some women don't like to hear that hijab is wajib. Women who dont wear hijab are always quite defensive and insecure when they see a woman with hijab. Probably because deep down they know. They're always quick to say "you know Islam is on the inside right, not how you dress. Dont think you're better than me!".
Anyways, the problem is of course the MSA doesn't want to lose the on campus jummah because ppl complained about "radical" khutab offending students. You can even complain and say "some radical preacher condemned me because I was having a drink at the bar with my gay friend" and the MSA would probably get a warning that their privilege will be taken away. So, it's really whatever. There's not much to do about it except to try & speak generally, and respectfully.
