Sex education in primary schools. Thoughts?

Post by Candience »

What are your thoughts about sex education in primary schools? Since primary schools are being forced to teach sex education to their pupils.

The other day my little niece who just turn 8 told me and my mother how she have been told about how you can get pregnant when you don’t use condom when having sex. And then she shocked us and said she knows how to put condom because she searched it from the internet. She brought plastic bag and pencil and shows us. My mother just fainted . Not to bother you with details she is asking too much questions, the little girl is scared to death and thinks if she played with boys she is going to get pregnant she even asked if you could become pregnant being in a swimming pool with her cousins because they are boys. Whenever she saw two opposite gender together she thinks they are having sex even her parent’s and she keep saying 'protect yourself otherwise you will get pregnant or catch a disease'. Not to mention my sister and mom want to sue the school because of that. How is that their fault? These teachers hate it as much as we hate talking and teaching the children about that but do they have choice? NO.

From what I have gathered it has been in the news and papers that primary school children should learnt about sex education in early years 5-10 because of the number of teen pregnancies. Looking back yesterday I had discussion with a friend of mine, who is primary teacher, you have no idea about how many horror stories she has told me. The children want to experiment about what they have been told and even doing in the playground.

In my point of view, I see both sides of this because I met 12-15 years olds pregnant little girls that their parents bring them to the hospital because they had stomach ache and it turned out they are pregnant not to mention most parents won’t even let you take urine test because their precious daughters are not even sexually active, let alone go out because they pick them from school to home. Those girls have no idea what they did and get into themselves because some of the boys who probably older than them about maximum 2 years pressure them. If you realize these little girls nowadays are growing so fast and going through puberty at early years as well as they start menstruating at the age of 8. , Whereas most of us (girls) had our period at the age of 12-15. Not to mention TVs and the internet has a lot to do with this. I know for a fact that television/internet has a major influence on children. Unfortunately, not everything they watch is appropriate for them. Take my niece for example; her parent’s should have known what she was doing on the net. In my younger days my parents used to monitor the stuffs that I do whether I am watching TV, reading books or using the computer. I don’t think that does exist anymore, children are giving too much freedom.

Last of all, I believe sex education should be taught in high school, children in primary school should learn about their private parts, and puberty not sex. kids don’t need to know or understand the process of maturing and sexual attraction.

So what are your thoughts of this? Would you ever tell your children the birds and the bees?

Looking back our parent’s they never talk to us about sex or even puberty. I remember when I first got my period, I went mute and couldn't tell my mom in words. But I was scared and freaked out because I thought I was going to die. Finally I ended up bringing my knickers to my mother to show her because I couldn't speak and I was so frightened. I could tell she was angry with me for showing her, but she told me it was my period and that I should get a pad from the bathroom and use it and to always keep everything in the bathroom and never bring it out like that again. Did she told me that before I had my period? No. If she ever told me before I would have known.

P.S. Excuse my punctuation and and typos I am posting from my phone.

You should take that up with the board of education. An 8 yr old has no business knowing that one can get pregnant after sex let alone how to put a condom on. The teens are the ones getting pregnant, not the adolescent! If they are so concerned with teen pregnancy, they should limit what they show on TV in the daytime!

I wonder if the pharmaceuticals that produce contraception products are behind these insane ideas in order to create a larger market for their products or just stupid morons that don't know their ass from a whole in the ground.
