Re: Somalis who wear Arab clothing
Wadaads probably wear it in order to keep their garments above the ankles which is easily done with khamees however looks awkward with trousers.
A ridiculous thread nonetheless, the same could be said about Somalis who wear trousers and so on, why don't they go to work in their macawiis right?

The latter don't say they wear trousers for religious purposes. What does the ghutra and ciqaal have to do with this?Colonel wrote:Wadaads probably wear it in order to keep their garments above the ankles which is easily done with khamees however looks awkward with trousers.

Doesn't matter, thread is asking why do Somalis wear khamiis instead of traditional clothing. Same could be asked about why they wear western clothing, I'm just trying to point out the negativity/bias some members have towards Arabs even on some ridiculous topics.Jaidi wrote:The latter don't say they wear trousers for religious purposes. Wear Arab clothing in Arab countries.
Wear Western clothing in the West.
Wear Arab clothing in the West, and you're a f-king idiot. I lol at the dudes wearing khamises and shit when the actual Arabs are wearing jeans like everybody else.
Cultural imperialism at its best

Re: Somalis who wear Arab clothing
Same could be asked about 'western' clothing kulahaa. Look sxb, trousers are worn the world over, literally, and have been for a long time whereas arab clothing is worn by arabs only. If living in the west and you wear 'western' clothing, fine. If you live in the arabian peninsula and you wear their clothing, fine. But to get out your arabic style clothing just on eid days when you live outside arab countries or for a wadaad to wear them as though it is part of his position or obervance of the deen, I just dont get. Keep their garments above their ankles is an excuse, I know plenty of people who just wear either (a) trousers that are short lenghtwise or (b) roll up the trouser leg ends. Then there are the Al-shababs with their paki style surwal khameezColonel wrote:Doesn't matter, thread is asking why do Somalis wear khamiis instead of traditional clothing. Lastly there is nothing wrong with wearing macawis/dirac or other types of what is considered Somali clothing whether male or female dress. It may be unpractical at times but it cant be less practical than wearing khameez. Part of upholding your own clothing is investing in and modernising, adapting and bringing out new styles/designs/materials so as to make it more practical or 'stylish'. You see the pakis rocking their traditional clothing even in the west but with Somalis you'll more likely find them wearing arab rather than their own clothing on those special occasions.

Technically speaking there is nothing wrong with niiko if it is done in an environment where it is only women. Then they can shake their booty's to their hearts contentgrandpakhalif wrote:Who cares about somali culture I see it as garbage. Niiko and shit.
Re: Somalis who wear Arab clothing
anonymousfarax the guy promotting Somali models is now hating on people who wear khamiis...try and figure that out.
@ wearing a macawiis outside saxiib let's be honest you've never done so and probably never will.
To be honest I agree that people should blend into their environment without loosing the religion/culture however i won't hesitate calling out haters of the "Eastern way" while they promote the "Western way".
You can hate on Arabs all you want I don't give a .... however don't come out the next promotting models and what not.

On a serious note.
I was promoting the working together of Somalis and the way in which Somali companies and entrepreneurs (Iman cosmetics and Mataano) are supporting each other. Somali models are Somali models - to me they are part of building and promoting a Somali brand (I will post about this soon).

Depends on how old she is. If she is qaangaadh I would tell her that unless she models modest clothing, she will most likely incur dembi. If she still decides to go and do it its up to her ... its not like I share her dembi with her. Is it worse or different than Somalida badan oo xaram caydh iyo income qaata (UK) ?

As for your question i would say modelling is way way worse, why?
Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) mentioned: “There will be women who will be dressed but they will be naked. Their heads will be like the humps of camels. They will not enter Jannah and will not even smell the scent of Jannah while it can be smelt from a far distance.” [Sahih Muslim]
