Don't raise your expectations about working or living there; what you think you know about it, the movies you've watched about it, the general impressions you've formed over the years, etc are fundamentally different from the reality. I would suggest you spend some time on Google maps, viewing locations you're likely to visit, to get a first-hand impression about what the buildings, streets (asphalt condition), people, etc look like. For instance, you could check Google maps for this address:

Use the Google maps navigation to move around the streets, zooming in/out to take a closer look at the buildings, road conditions, etc. Since you're from Oceania, and likely have visited Europe, you'll notice the US is backward and not as sophisticated. Some areas will remind you of the Third World.

Should you decide to stay there, stay in low profile and keep to yourself.

As long as you are being careful and don't act wierd, I think you should be fine. Just don't go to bars while you have a white woman with you. What triggers rage among racist white Americans is when they see black man going out with a white woman. Other than that, I think you should be fine. Keep in mind majority of the people are decent, law abiding, but rural white rednecks and want to preserve their culture, the same way we--Somalis-- want to preserve ours.

I'm thinking of working there for a year, Bozenam, Montana to be exact; anybody know anything about such place? first time I've ever heard of the place. Company am working for has offered me a year to work there.

even, billings, Montana's largest city has no black people and the population of native Americans are just 4 percent. just imagine that!

personal experience: i drove through Montana couple of times and each time my heart was bumping so fast that i only made couple of stops throughout the state. and considering how big Montana is, i had to because there's nothing over there except mountains, cows, and racist cadaans. you could drive hundreds of miles and see no rest areas or towns. most of the time, all you will see are farm houses and caadaans in big pick up trucks with menacing faces. the way they look at you alone just scares the hell out of you!!!

i remember stopping at a convenient store to get gas and use the restroom and as soon as i stepped in everybody in the store looked at me like i was from outer space. wallah i was so uncomfortable and scared i was looking behind my back through the mirrors until i got very far away from them.

Montana and northern Idaho are no go zones for people like us. all racist cadaan people live there and i am not just making it up. it is a fact.

I hope stupid Somali racists would realize that our Africa American brothers and sisters, despite our differences, have paved the way for us to live and migrate to the US because you only realize you are different when you travel through places like this. Seeing a black person in places like Montana is like finding your long lost brother. I wouldn't want to go any place like that especially this time where all rednicks and bigots are mad because not only are black men still taking their women, a black man is their president. White racist people are freaking so mad and guess what, it has nothing to do with economy and jobs. If you have a bachelor's degree of any sort, the unemployment rate in the US is only 5%.

I haven't been to Montana since the mid-eighties, but I was through Oregon, Idaho and Utah this past summer and was surprised by the relatively large number of Madows I saw. They did not seem out of place and appeared no less well off than anyone else. I did not knowingly see any Somalis, but I do know that Salt Lake has a Somali Bantu community. Given that there were virtually no black folks in these areas when I was growing up, it was a significant change.

My thinking is that you may have enemies in Bozeman, but that you will also have friends. Democrats and Indians will probably be friendly. Your company and the law will be on your side. I would go, but try to make friends quickly. Keep a low profile and don"t spend much time in Coeur D'alene, Idaho, which is something of a red-neck stronghold. You should be ok.
