http://www.slashgear.com/carrier-iq-app ... -05199959/The controversy began last week when Trevor Eckhart discovered the Carrier IQ software to be running in the background on his HTC device. He alerted other users and noted that the software appeared to be logging every single user action on the device, including keystrokes and text messages.
What is it? Carrier IQ is a spying software installed in your phone or smartphone. It sends back (check picture above) anything you do, like anything you type (password, credit card #, etc), websites visited, text messages, etc.
What devices? Virtually any modern phone or smartphone, including the iPhone.
This doesn't only affect the US; it includes Canada, EU, Asia, Middle East, etc.a new class-action lawsuit has been lodged against the company. The lawsuit, filed by three local law firms led by Sianni & Straite in the Federal Court in Wilmington, Delaware, also lists several other defendants, targeting handset manufacturers Apple, Samsung, HTC, and Motorola as well as US carriers AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile.
What's the solution? The only solution is for Android smartphones (sorry iPhone and other owners). Android is flexible, and you can root it to install a customized Android. Rooting means taking control of your phone. Once you do that, you install a customized Android modified/programmed by hacker/programmers from across the world. This customized Android is usually the latest Android (+2.3), with enhanced battery life, ability to install only programs you want, takes little space and has many other improvements.
Rooting requires asking your inquiries at some forums, reading how-tos and watching some Youtubes.
