STOP THIS BILL FROM BECOMING LAW - INDEFINTE DETENTION

IT PASSED THE US SENATE 93-7 :-O

AMERICAN CITIZENS CAN BE DETAINED WITHOUT TRIAL UNDER THIS BILL. IT IS NOT IN LINE WITH THE BILL OF RIGHTS. WTF
JAMAICA, New York (December 2, 2011) – The Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA) issued an urgent action alert to the American Muslim community today, urging them to ask President Obama to veto a bill that will allow for indefinite detention of US citizens.

“The US Senate voted Tuesday in favor of a provision in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act that will allow for US citizens accused of terrorist activity to be detained indefinitely and without a lawyer or trial. This bill will give permanent authority to the president to detain US citizens for life without formally charging them with a crime.

This bill is archaic and dangerous, violating basic civil and human rights and completely disregarding the due process of law. We urge you to contact President Obama and local members of Congress to act against this bill and prevent it from becoming law. Our liberties and rights are at stake today, and we must act to protect them.

Contact President Obama:
Call the President: (202) 456-1111
Email: http://www.whitehouse.gov/contact/submi ... d-comments
Mail: The White House: 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington, DC 20500

What to say:
President Obama,
We ask that you fulfill your promise to uphold the U.S. Constitution by vetoing the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act. Due process of law is our strength, and not our weakness. We say there can be no detention without a trial, and our freedom is non-negotiable. You must restore and protect the U.S. Constitution and prevent this bill from uprooting the rights of American citizens.

Contact your state Senator:
http://www.senate.gov/general/contact_i ... rs_cfm.cfm

Contact your local Representative:
http://www.house.gov/representatives/find/

What to say:
We ask that you contact President Obama and tell him to veto this bill as he has promised. Restore the due process of law; no one should be detained without charge or benefit of a lawyer and a fair trial.”

The Islamic Circle of North America is a leading American Muslim organization dedicated to the betterment of society through the promotion of Islamic values. Since 1968, ICNA has worked to build relations between communities by devoting itself to education, outreach, social services and relief efforts.

Press Contact: Naeem Baig
Vice President for Public Affairs
Islamic Circle of North America
E-mail: ICNA PR Email
Office: (718) 658-1199 Extension: 102
Cell: (917) 202-2118

I HOPE OBAMA DOES A POCKET VETO SINCE CONGRESS WILL BE ON VACATION SOON.

I think President Obama will veto it. It is against everything the USA stands for. It will be challenged by the courts becuase it contradicts the provisions of the constitution.

It is not the same Nanees. This is against the very core of the constitution; due process for citizens. The patriot act did not curtail the rights of citizens and did not deny citizens the right to due process.

yes it does/did. why do u think awlaki was assasinated w.o a trial? it's around election time, half the stories being sensalitionized are just a way to get more votes. watch obama veto this, win the hearts of hundreds/thousands/millions of voters only cuz he vetoed against them losing rights they don't even have due to the patriot act. ironic?

Welcome to America where human being makes the law... How disgusting society it is.. A man always an arrogant and wicked creature. If they make laws, they always based on their small negative wicked minds... Islam is the solution for everybody.. Most people are ignorant about that..

I think you are wrong by stating MILLIONS of Americans were sent to Guatamo. The USA has a president who knows the American constitution. He will veto it.

Guantamo is on the conscious of America and is against everything the US stands for.

Let us hope he is reelected.

What has obama done to deserve this praise? he's sent even MORE troops into the war, sure he brought back a bunch recently but the amount of troops that returned home this past year is barely putting a dent in the amount he SENT when he first got into office. and yeah millions of americans have been sent to Gitmo since its opened. the majority of them muslim.

obama promised he would get rid of gitmo, but he recently signed legislation that extended gitmos life span. he also promised to support an autonomous palestinean state, but only a few months ago threatened palestine against applying for recognition from the UN.

Obama is fighting unprecented - xenophobic- opposition at home. He will close Gitmo, he has already succeeded in bringing back America's image. Give him sometime and elect him for a second term.

What he has done thus far is called real politic

As the editor of Havard Law Review and a professor in Law, he knows the importance of upholding the constitution.

so you admit obama hasn't done most of what he promised and infact has done the opposite of what he has promised on many issues, and even moreso has given us many reasons to believe that he will renege on these promises if elected for a second term?

He has fulfilled alot of the promises; the media does not report that. On some areas he has met vicious opposition and in some areas things take longer because of loopholes.

There is no alternative t0 Obama.
