lol actually Ethiopians fought back to preserve 2,000 years of freedom.

Also,
With an attack appearing inevitable, Emperor Haile Selassie ordered a general mobilization of the Army of the Ethiopian Empire. His new recruits consisted of around 500,000 men, many of whom were armed with nothing more than spears and bows. Other soldiers carried more modern weapons, including rifles, but many of these were from before 1900 and were badly outdated.[nb 2]

According to Italian estimates, on the eve of hostilities the Ethiopians had an army of 350,000-760,000 men. But only about one-quarter of this army had any kind of military training and the men were armed with 400,000 rifles of every type and in every kind of condition.[15]

In general, the Ethiopian armies were poorly equipped. They had about 200 antiquated pieces of artillery mounted on rigid gun carriages. There were also about 50 light and heavy anti-aircraft guns (20 mm Oerlikons, 75 mm Schneiders, and Vickers). The Ethiopians even had some Ford truck-based armored cars and a small number of Fiat 3000 World War I-era tanks.

while the Italians had
The equipment for the build-up alone included 6,000 machine guns, 2,000 pieces of artillery, 595 tanks, and 390 aircraft. Before these arrived, the Italians had 3,300 machine guns, 275 artillery pieces, 200 tankettes, and 205 aircraft. Thanks to the Royal Navy (Regia Marina), the Italians had tons of ammunition, food, and other necessary supplies. The Italians also had motor vehicles to move supplies and troops while the Ethiopians carried supplies in horse drawn carts.[1]

During this campaign the Italians placed considerable reliance on their Royal Corps of Colonial Troops (Regio Corpo Truppe Coloniali, or RCTC) - indigenous regiments recruited from the Italian colonial possessions of Eritrea, Somalia, and Libya. The most effective of these Italian officered units were the Eritrean native infantry (askaris) who were often used as advance troops. As advance troops, the Eritreans often suffered heavy casualties accordingly. The Eritreans also provided cavalry and artillery units. The "Falcon Feathers" (Penne di Falco) was one prestigious and colorful Eritrean cavalry unit. Other RCTC units employed in the invasion of Ethiopia included irregular Somali frontier troops (dubats), regular Arab-Somali infantry and artillery, and Libyan infantry
It was actually the Somalis among others who fought for the colonisers.

why would somalis not help colonisers?

The Xabashis had already used the colonisers to become the most heavily armed group in the region from just having spears and arrows 50 yrs before.

They used the Brits and french to destory the last Adal empire, They used the brits to conquere the Ogaden and also used them to depose the last real emporer of Abysinia Lij Eyaasu and reinstate the midget french trainned and nursed leader Haile Selasie.

Nations are measured by their success in terms of advancement, self-reliance, wealth, public health, wealth, etc, etc... and Ethiopia is always in the bottom ten, if not three. It is one humongous embarrassment :)

Their current situation doesn't change the fact that they have thousands years of history and culture which Somalia nor any other African country can begin to match.

People here are measuring success of Ethiopia by looking at its military build up not knowing the fact that its all sustained by the unquestionable financial aid it receives from the West.

Its very sad to see how Ethiopia which is one of the most resourceful countries in Africa living on International aid since the day it came into existance.

Didn't he sign a treaty with them giving them rule over Some parts of Ethiopia? Ethiopia was partly colonized by the 'short stay' of the italian forces. The rest of the years they served the albinos as spies and concubines. Fuck outta here with your xabashi filth!

8 yrs thats why in the Ethiopian calender its 8 yrs back as they dont recognise the 8 years they were under occupation.

Mind you it was the British Empire that brought back Haile Selasie just before he was going to sign off a deal with Mussolini making him a puppet leader.

The_Patriot, I don't think you can objectively look at the situation seeing as that your people are being subjugated by the Ethiopian Empire.
Might want to see sit this one out, lad.

@ the patriot, I'm not debating the decision to fight for the colonisers. Of course they were conscripted like every else white people had on lock. I was pointing out to Anonymous that Somalis are not some super race....the Ethiopians were conquered because they were outgunned....similar to Somalis...Eritreans...Libyans etc...and far from being super human ...Somalis were actually fighting for the Italians (like other africans) against the habasha 'without dhiig'.

You dont make sense here? Do you think the Ethiopians were fighting in the nbame of Africa?

They were infact a creation of the colonisers they were nobody and were running naked fighting with swords and arrows over dorminace before the Europeans came and armed them to teeth to fight off their African brethrens in the process alot of blood was shed.
The author of Ethiopia through Russian Eyes describes in great detail how Menelik's imperial state drew much of its power and wealth form the exploitation of subjugated peoples, and employed a warrior class well trained in the use of European arms both to acquire territory and to drain it continuously of all its portable wealth. The military campaigns and ensuing Ethiopian rule of conquered regions resulted not only in death and injury for thousands of people, but also in social upheaval, famine, and severe epidemics. As Gebru Tareke has noted in Ethiopia: Power and Protest: Peasant Revolts in the Twentieth Century (1991), "Paternalistic and arrogant, Abyssinians looked upon and treated the indigenous peoples as backward, heathen, filthy, deceitful, lazy, and even stupid -- stereotypes that European colonists commonly ascribed to their African subjects" (71). .......Ras Wolda Giorgis on his expedition of military conquest to Lake Rudolf in 1898. Although an amicus of the Ethiopians, Bulatovich was appalled by their ruthless butchery and pillaging of indigenous peoples, which he often attempted to stop. Describing the behavior of Ethiopian soldiers, he said that they sometimes competed with one another for pride of place in killing villagers and invariably returned with the testicles of their male victims as trophies. [This trophy-taking was not the behavior of the Ethiopian soldiers, but rather of auxiliaries with Wolde Giorgis' army and also of indigenous tribes in their wars with one another.] One of these victims was a three-year-old boy who has brutally castrated and whom Bulatovich later adopted [Cared for, but did not officially adopt him] and brought back to Russia in 1898.

1.) The Imperial Ethiopian Royal lineage goes back 3,000 years, starting with the marriage of King Solomon to the Queen of Sheba all the way to Grand Negus Haile Selassie I.
About 1000 (presumably c 960), a non-Christian princess, Yodit ("Gudit", a play on Yodit meaning evil), conspired to murder all the members of the royal family and establish herself as monarch. According to legends, during the execution of the royals, an infant heir of the Axumite monarch was carted off by some faithful adherents, and conveyed to Shewa, where his authority was acknowledged, while Yodit reigned for forty years over the rest of the kingdom, and transmitted the crown to her descendants. At one point during the next century, the last of Yodit's successors were overthrown by an Agaw lord named Mara Takla Haymanot, who founded the Zagwe dynasty and married a female descendant of the Axumite monarchs ("son-in-law") or previous ruler.

Haile Selassie was the only black man in Africa to rule over his country freely during the colonial period.
In 1936, Mussolini invaded Ethiopia and the empire was crushed. Haile Selassie fled to England, first to London and then to Malvern.
Ethiopia is the only black African country to have defeated a European power in war.
Estimates for the Ethiopian forces under Menelik range from a low of 73,000 to a high of 100,000, outnumbering the Italians by an estimated five or six times....Also, in Ethiopian Army there was the small team of the Russian advisers and volunteers of the officer the Kuban Cossack army N.S. Leontiev..............One question much asked – both then and long afterward – is why did Emperor Menelik fail to follow up his victory and drive the routed Italians out of their colony?.....Almost forty years later, on 3 October 1935, after the League of Nations's weak response to the Abyssinia Crisis, the Italians launched a new military campaign endorsed by Benito Mussolini, the Second Italo-Abyssinian War. This time the Italians employed vastly superior military technology such as tanks and aircraft, as well as Chemical warfare, the Ethiopian forces were soundly defeated by May 1936. Following the war, Italy occupied Ethiopia for five years (1936–41), before eventually being driven out during World War II by British Empire

The Ethiopian Christian Orthodox Church is more than 1700 years old. It also maintains several prominent chapels in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

The Grand mosque of Haraar was converted to a church after the infamous 1890's massacre of Muslims in Harar by the treacherous Menelik forces led by Haile Sellasies father Ras Mackenon.

union, having 100K years of history doesn't make a country "the greatest". Ethiopia = epic fail

pat, I've never came across Ethiopia and success in one paragraph. At least other Africans blame slavery for their misfortunes.
