Lol green. You're saying "ina eedo". I've come to accept that the proper term must be "ina adeer".

Green, I said it might be right to use either...so technically, I'm half-right and ur half-wrong

Alpha, that was for my parents' siblings on their respective sides bro.

At the end of the day, nobody is gonna convince me it's not right to say ilmo adeer for your father's bro's and sis' kids cuz I literally just spent a month in a Somali city where everybody says ilmo adeer for both of their father's side, whether brother or sister. My pops' side uses the same thing. The most I'll concede is there is dialectic differences where other places say ilmo eedo for the father's sis' kids.

yung, I see. Cool. We say "maamo" to maternal aunts, on both sides lol. My little cousins were so confused when i called their aunt "eedo".

Can I ask which city/region that was? May help me out lol.

green lol, I'm sorry, I'm simply going by experiences and what makes sense culturally speaking.

Dude, you were OK before but now you're confusing yourself. LOL!

You've got the maternal side correct but just need to fix the paternal side.

paternal uncle's children = ina adeer
paternal aunt's children = ina eedo

Beans, ina eedo = ilma eedo. One is singular and the other plural.

green, culturally speaking because Somali is a culture built on paternal lineage. It's a patriarchy. It only makes sense to use these titles.

That's because people don't like to talk about family stuff when you're around.

Lol, you have to read through the entire thread. It was a progressive move toward "ina adeer" both sets paternal cousins.

Alpha, brother if we go by paternal lineage then your aunties children are nothing to you in Somali, only those aad ku abtirsato which basically means your fathers brothers and male relatives!

You call your fathers sister eedo right>? so just add kids which is ilmo making it ilmo eedo=auntis children
