The parents and older generation don't.

But the younger ones do consider themselves as (insert nationality here). This is especially the case for Somalis born in, lets say Canada and those Somalis who came to, lets say Canada when they were infants. Alot just hide their patriotism or act like they are not included to seem like they haven't abandoned their Somalinimo.

It's really weird. You see a lot of people with false patriotism for Somalia without ever stepping foot in the country and barely being able to speak the language. Identity crisis indeed.

i disagree. 2nd gen diaspora barely consider themselves canadian, outside of world hockey n olympics. some barely pass as somali. next gen will be canadian, perhaps, if they abandon 'somalinimo'.

Being Somali is not a privilege it is a right, it had nothing to do whether u come from big qabiil or small one, all you neeed is either you were born in Somalia or your parents are from Somalia, it doesnt matter whether u r green, red, black or white, period.

Abt Somali population, Human growth in Somalia has been consistent even under the wars and starvation, Somalia was having one of the highest Human growth 3+%

There are plenty of White Canadians that don't watch hockey or the olympics. They don't define what it is to be a Candian. There are actually more people who register to join soccer clubs/teams in Canada than hockey clubs/teams (570,000 registered hockey players in Canada in 2011 vs 2,695,712 registered soccer players in Canada in 2006).

You have a point that Somalis, even after living here for their whole life might not feel like they belong here but those are exceptions (but I admit, they are plentiful). Alot are just truly hiding it man. Try convincing a Somali friend to go to Somalia and staying there for a few months lol most likely they will refuse and that is because they want nothing to do with their parents culture/home and even though they dont want to admit it, they dont want to leave their home (Canada, in this case) because of their attachment.

not wanting to go to somalia doesn't make one a canadian. canadian identity, as difficult as it is to define, hasn't been adopted by us. i believe the determining factor will be on religious grounds. we barely fit into either camp due to holding onto islam while trying to actively succeed here. the next gen will have to choose between religion and canadiana.

I don't think the next generation will be that religious considering there are barely any Somali youth today that pray other than during Eid at the mosque.

It looks like Canadiana is inevitable but I personally think it happened as soon as the first bullet was fired in Somalia.

In Holland , a single mama with 4 children wil be given 3500 euros per month (equivalent of 4500 US Dollars)
She will spend like 2000 a month, she will have 1000 to entertain the maker of her babies known as BOYFRIEND to the authorities, and she saves 500 euro per month

A master degree holder will hardly make 2000 euro net a month!

I told u guys, single mamas are the solution: if u are young and can entertain three at a time u will make 3000 (and they take care of your food, khat etc...even vacation)

We are a langaab nation,

@ Greenday...2.5 to 11 million in 50 years is tiny. It took us that long to get 2.5 million because less diseases were curable...more infant mortality (plus mothers dying in childbirth)...lower life expectancy. Now this still happens in Somalia but we have more access to medicine now...basically more ilbax.

However because of war, famine and what have you...our population growth is way lower than our neighbours and other deveoping countries.
