Why haven't Somalis moved to Texas?

Been here for couple days and out of the 4 continents and numerous countries I've been to the last three years, by far this is the place I would settle in. It's January with 70 degree weather, no clouds, and it feels 55 degrees. The people are the nicest, friendliest, and most polite I have ever seen. They are very laid back and just too friendly to the point you could feel weirded out. There is no rudeness, no road rage, and their conservative attitude which I thought would weird me out is very complimentary to their character and conduct. Somalis would have loved this place but I would say if they are more Americanized. It's America, fuck yeah here and Texan identity is very important. Out of all the places in US I've seen never thought I would write about any specific locality till I saw here. It surprised me very much in a good way especially know my liberal city and its people demonize this place more than they even foreign places. Today this rich white couple just came to sit by me in a coffe shop and the lady said in her southern drawl my my you are a very handsome young man and her husband after I talked to them in a little bit offered me a good job even tried to persuade me to join his company. It is not unique, I've seen that interaction more than I have ever seen anywhere anywhere else. Just very friendly and nice people. I'm definitely going to buy a ranch here in the future.

Where in Texas are you at? I have been to that place ethnic Somali's live in a Dallas and suburb's such as Arlington and Irving while Fortworth has a substantial Somali Bantu population. Texas is a shitty place dude and the pay is freaking low as hell.

my reaction to the american midwest was similar. but from i can gather, when americans want to be rude it definitely won't be masked with fake smiles. i'd imagine texans won't beat around when letting you know what they think, be it good or bad.

I have family in Austin, Dallas and Houston. There are Somalis in Texas, unless you mean mass movement.....heaven forbid!

I have traveled up to Austin and the Houston-Huntsville metro are but I've been staying in and am in Bryant, Texas. Obviously I am not staying in the boondocks and I gotta be honest have not seen one Somali, few blacks and few Asians. Being in Austin is a whole different story than being in the typical Texas City. Austin a college town and is a heavily Democratic controlled city and is very very Liberal by American standards let alone Texas. Houston does not have a big Somali community but has a few here and there. Somali's in Texas live in the DFW area which i talked about before and in Amarillo Texas which has some kind of Beef Processing Plant. There are 3 different kind of Somali's in Texas. One those who arrived during Pre-War or the early 1990s who are educated and live a comfortable life in the suburbs of Dallas and are connected. Second those who arrived after 9/11 and are still arriving and almost are almost 100% percent from the refugee camp's in Ethiopia and trust me i have met some of those people and most of them speak some fucked up Somali even i with my fucked Somali have a better Somali than them and have never even seen a Toilet. Last but not least there is a huge Somali Bantu Community and some people they refer to Bajuun which i thought are not Somali who breed like there is no Tomorrow and their women spend all the money on Gold. How do i know all this? Been to Texas a million times and my uncle is one of the Director's of Catholic Charities Diocese in Dallas. Plus there is a big Ethiopian population in North Dallas.

Guys I've been to the midwest before including KOA's hometown Atlanta in the bible belt southeast. Trust me I am aware of the culture and stuff, but the place I'm in amazes me and it's all because of the place. My belief was these people are redneck, racist, Republicans but but even though they are Republicans, never seen so much welcome and positive friendly interaction. Totally opposite of what I thought and also while I know some Somalis live in major cities I'm talking like a xarun for Somalis to the extent of Minneapolis and Columbus, Ohio. I think Somalis would have done great here.

its called Southern Hospitality, the Southern ppl are more friendly and laid back , their women are sweet and ladylike and their men act like a gentlemen. compared to the Midwesterners who are somewhat uptight, and cold and Eastcoast ppl who are straight up rude with their Italian and Jew accoents, Westcoast ppl can be snoty, and self-obsorbed.

Anyway, there are too much illegal immigrants/ mexicans in Texas, i also hate the evanglican conservative christians that believe Texas is the best thing since sliced bread.

I went to Texas back a few years ago. Out of all the places I've been too, Texas was the best place hands down. Best experience of my life.

Austin, Dallas, Houston, Copperas Cove, Killeen-Fort Hood

Friendliest people, great weather, great food, not very expensive. I got store deals because they assumed I was some soldier "fighting in Iraq" That state is bumping.

I always wanted to go back but I fought with my uncle on the last day I was there and haven't still apologized to him

They need to be more serious at the Killeen-Fort Hood Airport in terms of security. I accidentally slipped past security/screening without anyone and myself noticing. Lazy ass soldiers are used as employees

IronMan, I have to say there is some truth and falsehoods to it. From what I have seen based on my own travels, Seattlite liberals seem to be more educated than average, more aware about the world, etc and they classify people into 3's; equals which can be of any race and culture as long as they share same education, social, and cultural point of view (in this respect they prefer non-white to white and if you are white who shares same politics and societal views you are their better half), enemies who are conservatives and or Republicans, and underlings who are all those unfortunates who need their help and are. That's where stuck attitude comes from but for a person like me who doesn't need charity and subscribes to same worl view combined with my own cultural and immigrant identity, I can see the bes and honesty of their character. Don't demean the place I went from kindergarten to university, I know and respect them.

But Texas and specifically the place I am in surprises me quite a lot.
