As I lied in my field in the darkness of night,
I looked up into the sky.
I saw a star so small, but so bright.
That was right where I wanted to be.
Up in the heavens so high.
I got lost in a dream and flew away,
And met this star of mine.
I noticed a look, of sorrow I would say,
Sweep across its' shining face.
I continued like everything was fine.
We talked for minutes, or hours, unknown.
I told it my troubles, my hopes and my fears.
It told me a few of its' own.
As we went on, my star grew sad.
Its' face was soon covered with tears.
I asked it one question before we were done.
A simple one, it seemed.
'Why are you so sad, like you don't have anyone?'
I always wished to be like you,
But it only happened when I dreamed.
'My poor friend,' said the star,
'You just don't understand me.
It only seems that way from afar.
Now that your out here, look around.
How many others do you see?'
I realized what it meant by this.
And, that's when I came to.
I looked around my field with bliss.
Alone it looked, but only looked.
I had a knowledge no one else knew.
From my field my star was small.
Just one of many in the sky.
It appeared to by just part of them all.
Looking closer we can see its' loneliness,
From birth until it explodes to die.
So this I shall tell you before I end.
I've learned one lesson you see.
Don't look at numbers to measure your friends.
The loneliest people that I have known,
Have had far less than you or me.
