I am in medicine, but that that doesnt always mean med school.MrSinister wrote:i thought i read that somewhere. the point im making is someone who believes in demonic possessions should not in medicine.
So as a muslim, i'm obligated to believe in the ghaib and the jinn, however as a medical professional i'm obligated to not believe in them? How do you suggest I reconcile the two...

you can believe in it as much as you want, but your job as a health professionsl is to diagnose illness based on science and medicine available. and mental illness is no different than physicsl illness, there are specific symptoms associated with it.

I believe that ther are two types of conditioning:
1- can be understood in the Islamic perspective of the shaydaan: this is when "mental illness" is caused by evil influences, such as drugs, alcohol, etc.
2- is biological such chemical/physical imbalance, in this case I believe the individual is ill and needs medication to help his condition.

Re: do YOU believe in mental illnesses?
In every case where a person claimed to have a mental illness, the western doctors prescribed medications which made their condition worse, and thus dependent on the drugs to keep them saneMrSinister wrote:your job as a health professionsl is to diagnose illness based on science and medicine available

the thing is demonic possession can neither be prooven or disproven, so why bother considering it.with all mental ilness the science and medical answers should be exhausted first.
ofcourse reading quran on someone doesnt hurt, at best it can have a sort of placebo effect.
