Re: Studying the bible
it only matters when you want to understand the historical interpretation(tafseer) of the quran, so start it with the tafseer of abdallah yuusuf writen in english, he explains the quran through the biblical text.union wrote:Has anyone here done it?
I'm planning to start. I think it will prove to be beneficial.
Re: Studying the bible
The Bible is pretty large. What exactly do you want to know?
If you want to understand the foundation of the teachings like the Crucifixion, the Sin nature of Man, and Salvation through faith, I'd ask you to read the Book of John (not the letters,) and the Letter of Paul to the Romans.
If you would like to understand the relationship between Judaism and Christianity and the Supremacy of Christ, you can check out the book of Hebrews. But to get this you may need to check out three of the books of the Torah; Leviticus, Exodus, and Deuteronomy to understand. This will help you become familiar with things such as the shedding of blood, eating of unclean foods, and and in-depth explanation of the Radiant face of Moses (after coming from Mt. Sinai) among others.
But if you want to get some wise words, start with the book of Proverbs

Yea, the bible is very long compared to the qu'ran which is about the size of the old testament.AmalJaber wrote:The Bible is pretty large. What exactly do you want to know?

I will try to read all of it to get a comprehensive understanding of christian theology. I should be finnished in about a year.
I've recently started reading A History of Christianity: The First Three Thousand Years by Dermot McCullough which sparked my interest.
