Re: Saving Somalia wasted effort?
Kukri, Somaliland recognition was the elephant in the room, a lot of people were wondering what it had to do with Somalia, why was it invited since everyone knows it's position, this is the first time it's participated in a Somalia conference, and Hillary clinton I believe was the most explicit in the US stance on the issue, Cameron as well. Even in this video it was the last question asked, when the oxford man said "Somaliland is presumably going to be part of this reconstituted New Somalia". This was one of the messages that was taken from this conference, other than more aid to Amisom, garowe accord, tfg ending August, and commitment to fight AlShabab.
Re: Saving Somalia wasted effort?
The sooner the south accept the simple fact that Somaliland is gone and will never come back the sooner they can get their house in order. Cameron said and Hillary said isn't going to change anything so maybe people should stop building their hopes on the promises of leaders who were complicit in Somalia's unrest.Perfect_Order wrote: "Somaliland is presumably going to be part of this reconstituted New Somalia".

If you watched the video, when the question was finally asked, the somali guy said I don't know why Somaliland was even part of this conference, the south needs to put out its fire, and then we will talk with Somaliland, and he also said I don't see why we can't be united.
I assure sxb, the only infatuation with Somaliland is us, the people on the sidelines watching politics, you don't really hear about Somaliland from Somali politicians, as they are focusing on themselves. Now if you look at who was protesting outside of the conference, no rally about somalia, just Somalilanders trying to protest for it's independence. If you watch the video of the british officials talking with somalis, and letting them ask questions, how many Somaliland odayaal asked questions about Somaliland's recognition, even though it was to talk about the tfg? You don't ever see Somali's demonstrating to keep Somaliland within Somalia. It's the international community that is forcing Somaliland to be part of Somalia, we have no armies at your doors, forcing union with you. That is the present reality.

The reason Somaliland was part of the conference was because they were invited so maybe that question should be addressed to the organizers of the conference
Stop calling it a protest, it was a rally and there is big difference between the two. It was a rally to demonstrate that the people of Somaliland are united and with one common cause.
