Warya: Making Deposits in Somali Hawalas
Bro, how safe is it to deposit large sums of money in Somali hawalas ? Are some better than others ? I got a nice chunk of change that I need to park somewhere but due to Somali being cut off from the international banking system, I can't transfer it to my bank account. Short of carrying it out in cash or sending it via Hawala to myself and then being flagged for investigation, where can I park it ?
After what happened to QaranExpress, I am wary of hawalas. Is Dahabshiil the safest bet ?

I'd say transfer it to UAE via hawala. Then you have the option to transfer it to your bank account via wire transfer or open an acc. in Dubai. Remember uncle Sam and other anti money laundering agents will be on your tail as soon as you start transferring large sum of money. It must be justifiable
If it is a lot of cash, PM me.. lol

Warya,
UAE ain't no cake walk no more I am told. The transactional costs of operating in Somalia are high.

UAE route works - I approve this message
If you want to keep it in the country, I'd say put 30% in Dahabshil, 30% in Amal and the rest between some vault in a family owned business and your home.

Why can't you just wire it to someone's back account ...

Warya,
What are the requirements to open an account in the UAE ? I don't trust AMAL, they are Dahabshiil's last remaining major competitor and you know how Dahabshiil's competitors suffer misfortune ?

Ulterior,
Dahabshil is very reliable. You can deposit or withdraw at any location provided you have a reference if you are drawing from a place outside your home branch. They even give you cheques.

Wow
I didn't know that. What are the costs?
Sxb all these hawalas go up and down. At one point Barakat was very reliable.
As we saw recently with the new US regulations...the fortunes of xawala companies lie on weak foundations.

Ulterior,
No costs except for $5 to buy the starter cheques. You can withdraw your money from any Dahabshiil worldwide.
I love my 3piano Dahabshiil Crew
