This has been known for months (that they'd deploy), looks like our Gedonian folks are a bit late on the news.

The Sierra Leonian mujahids will be deploying to Gedo and the Jubbas alongside Kenya.

Although on principlaity I'm suspicious of foreigners in Somalia if they do come I prefer foreigners that we don't neighbor. I'm always a little quesey when I see Ethiopians, Kenyans on Somalia soil and inparticular in Gedo right now When they are drilling oil right at our doorstep.

Bottom line is while I think the Gedo TFG forces did a comendable job these Shabab focks cannot be totally broken except with some serious force. They just don't seem to ever go away.

I agree. The AMISOM Troops can protect strategic location and the Somali forces can consolidate the countryside and the urban center to provide intel and policing till they are mature enough to replace the AMISOM troops.

Roving,

What are the areas/sites in Xamar right now that are being transitioned from AMISOM to TFG control? I know Villa Somalia being a important site AMISOM is still there but how about places like Mogadishu stadium, Bakaara, etc.?

There are no AMISOM troops within the city and only time you find them is when they are traveling from base to base. The city is patrolled and by the government forces. AMISOM is stationed in strategic areas of the city like military bases, Mogadishu stadium and parliament and so forth. The normal patrolling and security is provided by the TFG forces. Plan is to gradually move them outside the city as more areas are liberated in the Shabelle Valley

Kenya is transitioning into AMISOM and will deploy alongside Sierra Leone troops in Gedo and the Jubbas for an unknown period. How does that bode for the future of Gedo oil exploration?

Kenya is deploying in the Jubbas as far as I know. The Sierra Leon troops will be in Gedo to the best of my knowledge

The Djiboutians are the only group deploying independently (to Hiiraan & Galguduud, maybe parts of Mudug), but the others will deploy together (Uganda with Burundi, Kenya with Sierra Leone) from what I read. This map I found is pretty much the situation.

Sierra Leone is ONLY deploying to Gedo and given the example of AMISOM we welcome them. The British are heavily supporting this contingent and have been training them. They will cement the gains in Gedo, provide water purification, field hospitals, and on top of that remove Ethiopia and Kenya from their position of impunity in this southwestern region.

It is a watershed moment which provide security space to finally concentrate on the political process.
