Somalia's Neighbors

Post by Monk-of-Mogadishu »

Ethiopia is embarking on the building of the highest-walled dam in the world at the moment, and its half-complete. Kenya is taking on the second-most expensive project in the entire history of the world, the Lamu Corridor project, and its on the way. And tiny Djibouti is building five major container ports and taking the title of Africa's largest trade zone.

Somalia very strongly needs a miracle to play catch-up----a slick, greasy, black miracle.. :| One of Djibouti's more modest projects alone is more expensive than every project ever undertaken in Somalia combined.

East Africa is blowing up in a way that rivals the Arabian Gulf circa mid-last century, and Somalia is part of this boom, so no need to worry, Somalia's day is coming the same time as everyone else's, and this was a good time to find peace (or perhaps it was planned this way). It's funny how Somalis don't see what's going on around them, and just how big the stakes are (the region will produce trillions---yes, trillions of dollars worth of commodities in the coming decade alone).

Don't worry about somalia, we 'll still have Habashi/Bantu housemaids in the year 3000

Faqrinimo is in Habashi-Bantu genes , no matter what they do, they 'll stay faqri till the end.

Monk,

Seriously, if there is a just government with a just leader, we will develop at a much faster rate. Look at it this way, we have very little to work off. This is not a bad thing. We are building a fresh and not trying to fix old obsolete assets. We are taking advantage of the best/latest technology. For example, we have no legacy infrastructure that we need to utilize and or update. Need a port, bam build a new one. Need a road, build a new one.

The missing ingredient is a strong, developed central government that provides only one damn thing: LAW & ORDER. The skinnies will do the rest. We worked miracles in other countries were had security guaranteed.

you have to understand two things, kenya and ethiopa are both from a economical point of view under colonization. Most of the private sector in kenya are owned by european investors, the ods of finding a kenya owned corporation are very something like 1/10 , the people are laborers in their own country. As for ethiopia, every body know that most of ethiopias economic growth numbers are botched, and this damned project is financial suicide because they have already taken large loans from the IMF to secure then, ethiopia is probably the biggest supplier of coffee in the world yet they almost no compensation from it, this is a result of IMF forcing the price of coffee to stay artificially low, most ethiopians dont see the fruits of their labor.
