Nothing. The thought of you capturing anything was amusing in itself.

We tend to give the benefit of the doubt to Sheikh Sherif. If it didnt work we have plan b to overrun pairateland and establish the likes of hamid karzai.

Looks like the Khat people were not satisfied with choice #1, which means its back to the unfulfilled May 18th celebrations.

You guys were always political novices when it came to competing with other Somalis, waiting for handouts from MJ or HG politicians, and you have not learned to use a system of your own. I would say that you should spend the next 20 years learning your own system, or retake your position as second-fiddle to MJs or HG. It's your only salvation.

Monk of Garowe,

Somaliland will sit down with a clear and legit central government of somalia when appropriate, don't you worry about that. In the current setting, there seems to be entanglement and lack of clarity on part of the TFG as who we should sit down and talk in regards to our Independence bit. You see, Puntland falls within the spectrum of the TFG control and hence cannot go to a meeting in which its already represented by the central government, in this case the TFG.

The discussion in which we intend to participate in is one that is between equal partners, Somalia and Somaliland, as it were in 1960. The idea that Puntland is regional state within somalia and yet wants to sidetrack the federal government and act alone as if its own government with its own agenda is somewhat laughable and does in fact give us a window's peak into your rather void logic. Perhaps you do not understand what federal government means. But we will give you the benefit of the doubt nonetheless. Although the regional states have the power to dictate their own affairs locally, when it comes to national matters, though (such as the talks between Somalia and Somaliland), then the federal government is tapped to handle such cases.

In addition, please drop the typical dhabayaco act, Puntland itself has followed the Somaliland's foot-steps to success. Everything about you screams SOMALILAND! You now even have your own little 'mini May 18th in August  and hold parties in hotels and have mini military parades and are now flirting with creating multi- party structure and have just drafted a constitution all of which have been done so by Somaliland a decade ago.

The only thing that Puntland has achieved before us, to which I can credit to you is the OIL explorations, everything else is our own work.

Somalistan, I'm telling you the simple facts. Somaliland has walked into its own trap. These are the facts.

50 years ago, qabil did not exist, MJ did not mind breaking bread with Isaaq, and business was usual. Today we live in a qabil environment, and reer Isaaq are WAY behind. The question is, will Isaaq use their heads for the first time in 20 years and pick a side (failed HG alliance or winning MJ-Mudulood alliance).

You have made yourselves victims to Xamar politics (unlike us, who became winners of Xamar politics), and it is your choice, to either work with the winners, or continue sitting uncomfortably in your asylum.

I have nothing against the Waqoyians, and wish for them the best, but at the same time I offer my best advice to them politically so they may thrive.

Let's be honest - you guys suck politically, and I am from a bloodline of natural politicians - I only offer the best of advice.

For the record, the best book on Somali politics, supported by my own family, is The Politics of Cain, was written by an Isaaq historian, and the entire book is about how MJs got on top. Read it and learn something.

Monk of Muqdisho,

There is room for improvement, but overall I like the direction we are headed with the current regime as far as engaging Somalia. As I said, we are not missing a beat at the moment. WE are doing good.

Moreover, several factors have contributed to the lack of international recogntion, one is self inflicted and the other was due to the lack of central government in Somalia with which to hold talks in regards to our independence ambitions.

For the first time in decades there is glimpse of hope that finally a functioning government may arise from the ashes in Somalia. This is great news for us. We have been the only(until you joined us) standing piece of the former somali republic. Now that Muqdisho is progressing in gettings its acts together means that we finally have someone to talk to.

Secondly, due to clan conflicts of the early to mid 90s coupled with incompetent and corrupt regime in recent times, have contributed to the absense of international recogntion. Today, as we sit here Somalialnd is making great strides in the international arena and has for the first time participated in internationally sponsored conference centered around Somalia, have followed up with agreement of talks with Somalia and have curbed the corruption. WE were busy sorting out internal scuffles in the past, but now we ready to progress towards taking the next step for our quest for the holly grail. Let me remind you and anyone else who doubts our commitment to recognition, that Somaliland considers its quest for its statehood as an absulete. There is no turning back the clock. WE are commited to it 100%. Now our approach to it might be little different, however the objective we wish to attain is the same.

ps. thankx for the book. :-O
