It's a combination of both.
In high school we are continuously battered with the notion that not getting a degree, any degree, will guarantee a life of struggle and poverty. This is the problem. Yes, post-secondary education is essential. Becoming a professional is important, even if it's something rather simplistic. However, understanding the purpose of university before actually going is just as important. The majority of university programs are designed to be introductory studies into respective fields of education. If one wants to do research, they should get a degree. If someone wants to get a job after getting a 3 or 4 year BA, they're wasting their time. Unless they plan on teaching English overseas for 35K, I don't really see the point. Certainly not now with all the folks who are getting laid off after 15+ years of experience, who also have BAs.
If a job is a goal, an applied science should be a focus.
University is a scam.

You are right thats why I switched from a useless BA to applied science in college. They even give you field placement to land you a job after u graduate. University guarantees nothing.

Fah,
It is very common in Europe for PhD in humanities and some science based subjects (e.g. biology) to go on welfare. The underlying problem is not the degree itself but the lack of positions at universities. There are not many students who study these subjects.

You're interested in doing computer programming, right? A buddy of mine is doing an IT program at Seneca, with co-op. Not even done his program and is already getting offers for full-time jobs, after the boss pretty much begged him. Though I suggest completing the program first and following through with the internship placement.grandpakhalif wrote:Alphanumeric wrote:FAH1223 wrote:^ people do not understand what is going on here.
