And I refuse to believe I am alone, I'm sure everyone has had these thoughts at some point in there lives. One thing I realised in the Muslim community (especailly somali) is that it is absolutely taboo to question any aspect of religion -- it would be suicide to so. I think this is the leading cause of apostasy, as this leads people to keep secret doubts they are unable to clear for many many years untill they finally lose faith altogether.

You are right, you are not alone in having doubt.

But unlike Christianity where some questions like the "trinity" is one that makes even their priest scratch their heads, in Islam every question a believer has can be answered. As long as your question are sincere. Muslim doesn't imply perfect, otherwise there wouldn't be any need for Prophets, and holy scripture as a guide for mankind. There is nothing wrong in having doubt as it is part of been a finite.

It only become taboo when you have doubt and not enough knowledge and you behave like Wolverine, Union and co or act like Dr Yalaxoow who twist and pervert the teaching of Islam.

Tariq Ramadan is the son of Said Ramadan and Wafa Al-Bana, who was the eldest daughter of Hassan al Banna, who in 1928 founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.

ps Tariq is hardly culturally Arab, he was born and raised in Europe and has been banned from Egypt for decades.
