Shirib, I heard it is across the board. If you see a social program promoted by democrats, it means more burden on the average Joe

po, how will the gov determine if I am eligible for free healthcare? Is it based on previous year's income tax return filing? Is there a cutoff income clause or will your premium payments depend on your income - sliding income/payment ratio?
Waryaa much the same way that one can qualify for medicaid, if you fall under a certain income bracket, you qualify for mediciad. I also belive the income bracket qualifying you for it will be widened. And yes your previous filed income tax.

tnx PO.

It looks like insurance companies are now forced not to discriminate or have different brackets for different conditions. If the gov is not putting money into the system then the only way to compensate for that is to increase premiums. That will make a lot of ppl angry. That makes Obama one term president.

8. Calculation of Individual Mandate Penalty(Tax)
If an applicable individual fails to purchase an insurance plan in one of the many ways allowed, the individual must pay a penalty. Id. § 5000A(b)(1). The annual penalty will be either: (1) a flat dollar amount, or (2) a percentage of the individual's income if higher than the flat rate. Id. § 5000A(c)(1). However, the percentage-of-income figure is capped at the national average premium amount for bronze-level plans in the Exchanges.[fn53] Id.

The flat dollar penalty amount, which sets the floor, is equal to $95 in 2014, $325 in 2015, and $695 in 2016. Id. § 5000A(c)(2)(A), (c)(3)(A)-(C). Beyond 2016, it remains $695, except for inflation adjustments.[fn54] Id. § 5000A(c)(3)(D).

The percentage-of-income number that will apply, if higher than the flat dollar amount, is a set percentage of the taxpayer's income that is in excess of the tax-filing threshold (defined in 26 U.S.C. § 6012(a)(1)).[fn55] Id. § 5000A(c)(2). In any [*1260] event, the total penalty for the taxable year cannot exceed the national average premium of a bronze-level qualified health plan. Id. § 5000A(c)(1).

This is for the time being. Most people don't know how complex this bill is. States are going to start making insurance exchanges where there will be multiple insurance options competing against each other for you to buy their coverage. I think companies will also re-asses their current plans for most cost effective plans for their employees. What is going on now will be changed drastically in the coming years. The immediate effects with out the bill even taking effect is nothing to go buy.

Per year since this will be charged when you file your taxes. This is also the base penalty if you can afford insurance but choose not to.

^ you are celebrating too early my friend dont you think? Mitt Romney made it clear yet again today that he is going to be replead and replace the bill in his first day in office  this is exactly the same issue why the Dems lost the election in 2010 and it's certainly going to happen again in November. Abdiwahab have you even read the bill or watched the news lately because all this law does is impose extra taxes on anyone who can't already afford health insurance, and if one can't afford health insurance, one won't be able to afford the extra tax, and when that happens people will go to prison for tax evasion :| Anwyayz I don't understand what the buzz is since the bill wont even take effect until 2014
