The monotheistic belief of the Lord Waaq Jalla Wa Alaa survived because in the past somali prophets were sent down.
There are many prophets. Allah/Waaq Jalla wa Alaa says:


And, indeed We have sent Messengers before you (O Muhammad(P)); of some of them We have related to you their story and of some We have not related to you their story, and it was not given to any Messenger that he should bring a sign except by the Leave of Allah. So, when comes the Commandment of Allah, the matter will be decided with truth, and the followers of falsehood will then be lost. (Qur'ân 40:78)

And so too were the somali ummah warned against polytheist by prophet:
And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): "Worship Allah (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Taghut (all false deities, etc. i.e., do not worship Taghut besides Allah)." Then of them were some whom Allah guided and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth). (Qur'ân 16:36)

Whoever is guided is only guided for [the benefit of] his soul. And whoever errs only errs against it. And no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another. And never would We punish until We sent a messenger.


I wouldnt be shocked if there was a prophet named with pure somali name faarax or caydiid or any other somali name u can think of. Also the place where Prophet Luqman aleyhi salaam lived was not far from Somalia. Many scholars say he was black man either from Sudan, Ethiopia or Somalia. And Allah/Waaq/Eebe knows best.

One thing I really disliked about James Dahl is the constant tone of "authority" with nothing to show for. If you cannot source the knowledge in first person terms (as clearly this is impossible when discussing far history), please source the authority of your knowledge.

I am speaking to Cirwaaq. After every sure statement you make concerning something you believe to be something from history, extend the source of your knowledge as Warsame101 has been more careful to do in his article.

but you are right after taking your perspective i see that it is correct, sources are essential even when you speculate you should source where your speculation takes off from.
i suspect i am guilty of james crime too...

When you have very little data to work with, speculation is the order of the day, and educated guess work.
I didnt have a problem with james work because i have read the same books and instinctively understood where he was coming from and from what direction his speculation was directed.
I guess most people would not understand it and it will look like someone is taking allot of stuff out of his ass so to speak.

i am pretty sure the northern semetic Baal or Bacal phonetically is very different from the somali /cushtic baal.
i think the somali/cushtic baal is related to the pagan arabic hubal.

the arabs accepted everyones gods and placed their idols in the kacba, this is why you find not only arab gods like al-laat, cuzza, and hubal
but also northern semetic gods like xaddaad , bacal.. and even hindu idols.

More research needs to be done really, perhaps an archaeological dig at the site of one of the ancient trade ports like Malao (supposedly near Berbera) would provide clues about Somalia before the arrival of Islam.
