I wanted to pick your brains. I was looking for a solid remote ISP satellite service provider for a small computer network to be based in the Somali peninsula/basin. There is no net access anywhere near this wilderness and even cellular service is spotty.
Any recommendations ? Does Thuraya provide solid service ? I tried Sahan but they sock. I have heard good things about THAICOM.
What kind of power generation would I need ? Would a car battery suffice or need to use a small generator to power the dish ? I want something small, mobile >
Jazakallah,
Abdiwahab

how big do you want the network?
I dont know about the cost but thuraya dishes are as small as a laptop and are battery power and you will need no more than a car battery.
for something larger you will need a small generator.
again i know thuraya coverage is the best in the region, ihave no info on thaicom or the cost.

Gurey,
Maximum - 2 computers for only 3 hrs uptime per day. Can't afford to turn on the matoor for too long. Trying to get some windpower solutions to ease off on the cost.

then thuraya is the best option as it is the more comprehensive.. i am assuming it will cost more as well.
the dishes are the size of an ipad but 2 inches thick.
for something this small you should consider solar.
chinese panels are really cheap nowadays and you can order them in bulk from dubai.

Great abti. If you can PM me the names of suppliers, I will price comparison and go there to pick some up. I hear Dubai is an awesome place to wash off Somalia, get some R&R in and have great fun.

Awahab, I work on internet and other communications projects in Somalia and other countries, and I can help you with this. How serious are you? Do you have the budget in place? I can't help you with the following cities and towns: Mogadishu, Baydhabo, Beledweyne, Galkacyo, Garowe, Qardo, Bosaso and Hargeisa. I can get you low cost highspeed internet for you anywhere else in Somalia. MP me with your requirement, budget, population, landscape, trees, etc, etc.
