Somalia&Somaliland talks will continue says new President

Post by Siciid85 »

Now that Somalia has a permanent government lets see whether the talks in favour of full secession in the case of Somaliland or union in the case
of Somalia succeed or break down as usual.

He doesn't support Seccession, and he won't put much efforts in the talks. He will focus on south, fix that, then let you guys come to a power sharing government.

There's no need to have talks with the north they have isolated themselves we need to focus on the south for now and then deal with them.

Perfect Order,

Your link is not working. In any event he has no choice but to continue them. The powers that be that pay his salary have deemed it important. This is why you heard nearly every single candidate mention these talks. The sooner they conclude the better for all parties involved.

If you actually bothered to watch his speech, he said Somaliya & Somaliland not TFG & Somaliland. There is no more TFG.

I fixed the link.

Salah, there is no president that is going to split Somalia on our side. We recognize the Somaliland government, and we wish the best for them, but that doesn't mean we support your independence. And to be honest, we gain nothing from letting you guys go, nor do we benefit either, so why would we do it?

Whether he plays lip service to these talks or not is beside the point. The issue is Somaliland & Somalia must talk and Somalia can't say no. This is high on his list of priorities. There is a third party in these talks and it is the international community. Lawyers will come and one way or the other we will get to the bottom of it. It’s a long process but the status quo is a thing of the past. One way or the other Somaliland is getting its recognition. Why do you think Somaliland’s foreign minister showed eagerness to have Somalia out of the transitional phase? So Somalia can actually make decisions that can stick.

Salah your a bit delusional, and your making the IC out to be fair arbitrators. There is not going to be a court where each is going to argue for their case. It will be a negotiation back into a Unity government. No one from the IC supports you guys, and most look at like two little brothers who fought each other and will make up.

Salah, just look at things from this perspective.
1. Somalia Constitution and Parliament incorporates you guys and claims to speak for you.
-Approved by IC ( UN basically wrote it)
-Approved by Elders
-Highest law in the land
2. President's stance on Unity is clear and firm
-To him it is just negotiations, no secession whatsoever
-He must follow the constitution
3. NO International body supports your secession
- Whether IGAD, UN, US, UK, AU, Arab Union, etc

Basically, if you want Somaliland to move forward, have access to Loans, development, sign international deals, you will have to give up secession. Otherwise, we will ignore you, but hope you to come around.

Did you bother to read what was agreed on in the talks? The below is number 4 on the 8 part agreement in London between Somalia & Somaliland:

(iv) Called on the international community to continue to facilitate the talks, including providing the two sides with external experts on legal, economic and security matters;

There is a referee in these talks. The international community is the arbiter. They will provide legal economic and security matter. They will facilitate it and they will provide all the necessary assistance to come to an agreement. Somalia has no authority in these talks. It is a participant.
