Read my reply thoroughly.. I said, as the economic situation became worse (Somalias economy was so bad in the 80's that the entire economy was based on foreign aid), the dissatisfaction grew among the population in the north. Which lead to systematic abuse from the regime as a solution to the uprising when the real solution should have been redistribution of the budget and cutting down the military budget but Siyaad knew that the army wouldn't accept it . So what did he do.. well, he expelled or killed most soldiers from Isaaq and Hawiye and replacing them with Darood because that gave him a sense of trust. He jailed, killed or drove politicians hailing from Isaaq and Hawiye into exile. These same politicians obviously joined the rebell groups that had affinity to their clan inorder to overthrow Siyaad but not because of economic gains as you're trying to put it. People were tired of the qabyaalad, corruption and systematic abuse.Zuluc wrote:SNM were created in 81, actally the Issaq was free from paying some taxes which the rest of the country was paying, remember Somalia was a poor country do you think it was realistic to make every city look Xamar? las anod and Borama was also poor but they did not betray their country by joining habashi based tratiors
lool what interest did the somali army have in abusing inocent civians in 81? try to be logical
SNM were figthing for gaining power not a desire to get a democratic government, all the men in the SNM were working for Siyad in the 1970s
there was no public uprising in Isaq cities thats why SNM had to break the war to civlians areas and in the proces killing 50000 of their own people

Look at this Boon acting like he knows which towns were captured by the SNM. Nigga slow down.

Meanwhile, SNM forces have pushed the front towards the east by taking Odweina on February 15 and Ainabo, 120 km east of Burao on the road by Mogadishu, at the end of the month. They claimed to have killed over 1,000 SNA soldiers.

Re: Puntland VS Matt Bryden
War you guys don't understand caruur baad tihind the SNA generals executed 43 army chiefs colonels and generals in 1978 1979 in wajaale and a dozen more in jigjiga after the war with Ethiopia these men that were killed were all isaaqs this happened in 1978 1979. At that time Mujahid Muhamad cali was fighting the WSLF DAROD faction in Somali galbeed this was before the formation of the SNM later the isaaqs came to gether in saudi arabia and said we must start a war and fight the regime because its arming a rebel movement that is fighting our people in Ethiopia plus it killed our army chiefs colonels and generals Plus we lost our business in the livestock. Its time to fight the regime that's when we started to form the SNM a political wing controlled by Politicians and a military wing fighting the SNA and a central committee full of elders and influential Somalilanders.

SNM and USC defeated Siad Barre in 1991.
Everybody knows that.
SSDF was very weak in 1991.

Somaliland broke away and is the most successful story in Africa a true democracy in the horn of Africa and the country is rebuilded
Puntland is doing fine a semi autonomous state that is really thriving Hobyo port is being built galmudug state of Somalia is shining

Have u seen the latest pictures of Kismayo u will say waauw
Re: Puntland VS Matt Bryden
I agree things were more complicated.. However Siyaad Barre destroyed the country. He could've left Mogadishu and Somalia intact, like Mengistu did with Ethiopia and Addis or he could've left after a simple election instead of relocating in Gedo launching military attacks inorder to retake power.Zuluc wrote:Meyle

Mengistu was smart he knew his time was up did you know he told western diplomats i am leaving tell EPLF and TPLF not to attack addis ababa and was given asylum in Harare where he lives today. Amhaaras love their country they are nationalistic people because Ethiopia was build on their blood and wisdom.Cant say the same about the Daaroods who looted the national banks before they were leaving bloody crooksMeyleSamaale wrote:I agree things were more complicated.. You're in a state of denial.Siyaad Barre left Muqdisho because he feared for his life, the man launched military attacks from Gedo inorder to retake power and obviously that will lead to clashes which unfortunately destroyed Somalias infrastructure. Siyaad Barres militia looted and destroyed the regions they operated in, they even stole millions of dollars from the Central bank of Somalia, in which Morgan among others bought weapons, ammunition, tanks, jeeps, oil etc. in the black market.
Re: Puntland VS Matt Bryden
I never knew that but he was a smart individual. The man played the United States (that was supposedly a Somali ally) againt Siyaad Barre. When Mengistu had the entire communist bloc either fighting for him or supporting him economically, the Somalias were all alone. Even in the border clashes in 82, Mengistu got the United States to stop Somalia from launching attacks inside Ethiopia. Siyaad Barre was too arrogant, he should've analyzed the situations before making decisions.khalid ali wrote:Mengistu was smart he knew his time was up did you know he told western diplomats i am leaving tell EPLF and TPLF not to attack addis ababa and was given asylum in Harare where he lives today. yes what a wondeful country we got after evil siyad left usAttempting twice to re take Mogadishu from the rebels. In Ethiopia the Top generals of the army just let the rebels in when they were near the gate of addis and when the EPLF AND TPLF reached the Imperial house of Menelik in addis Mengistu was gone . Mengistu knew he lost the war in 1990 when the Eritreans captured massawa in 1990 Feb the major port at that time in Ethiopia modern day Eritrea. The rest fell really fast the TPLF was in northern Ethiopia ready to march and Mengistu knew his time was up and he left.

Re: Puntland VS Matt Bryden
Every thing stated about Matt Bryden here is the truth. He is tirelessly campaigning for Somalia's break-up, he uses the UN offices to advance that agenda, and he puts negative light on PL and the rest of Somalia. He also makes sure that he barely mentions the corruption in Somaliland, and or not mentions at all the terrorist support that emanates from that territory.Grant wrote:http://horseedmedia.net/2012/09/13/soma ... acy-force/
Puntland is taking on Matt Bryden and the UN monitoring group over the group's claims the anti-piracy force is a private army in violation of UN arms embargoes.
Check out this article in Wiki:
"In 2008, Bryden was appointed to the UN Security Council's Monitoring Group, which is responsible for overseeing the arms embargo in Somalia. He continues to serve as coordinator of the UN's Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group.[12] Matt Bryden as Chair of the Somalia and Eritrea Monitoring Group alleges that various western governments, UN agencies, and others have violated the embargo – among the most interesting such allegation is in his April 2008 report, Bryden and his associates alleged that a U.S. missile strike against terrorist targets violated the embargo: “The Monitoring Group considers all weapons delivered to Somalia a violation of the embargo, irrespective of the manner in which they were delivered.”[13]
In a speech given on July 18, 2012, while serving as president of Somalia's Transitional Federal Government, Sharif Sheikh Ahmed, attacked the Somalia Eritrea Monitoring Group and it's Coordinator Matt Bryden. President Sharif said that "Matt Bryden is not ashamed to support the division of Somalia into two countries. Matt Bryden has a track record of being against the restoration of peace in Somalia."[14]
Controversy
The UN Security Council, the African Union, the Arab League, and the international community at large have confirmed the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia.[1] Yet Bryden has identified himself with Somalialand, a breakaway enclave in northwestern Somalia, and has lobbied for its international recognition.[2] Supporters of a unified Somalia were therefore angered when Bryden, whom they accused of undermining efforts to promote peace in the region in order to further the case of Somaliland independence, was appointed in 2008 to the UN Security Council's Monitoring Group.[1] The appointment prompted the Somali Mission to the UN, for example, to issue a statement expressing "very serious concerns about Mr. Matt Bryden as a fair and independent expert." Others who share these concerns have questioned the neutrality of reports from the Somalia Eritrea Monitoring Group (SEMG), which regularly levels accusations of corruption at leaders of the Puntland Government.[15] Since his appointment, the Monitoring Group has come under criticism for a number of reports. Their March 2010 report suggested "that Somali transport contractors employed by the World Food Programme (WFP) were in cahoots with 'terrorist groups' or diverting food aid to the black market, thus enabling contractors to earn hundreds of millions of dollars, while local WFP operatives looked the other way." Abdi Ismail Samatar criticized Bryden's SEMG in an Al Jazeera piece, saying that they "callously politicised humanitarian assistance". He went on to say that the SEMG "seems to be an operation that collects rumours and innuendo to support its political objective."[16]
Bryden has made no secret of his support for Somaliland’s separation and independence. As Director of the African Program at the ICG, he oversaw in 2006 the preparation and publication of reports promoting the breakup of Somalia and the recognition of Somaliland.[1]
Various articles have been published assailing Bryden for the biases that allegedly flow out of this support.[1][17][18][2][19]
In 2006, for example, Omar Ali Haji and Nura K. Ali of the Qarshe & Tima-Ade International Center strongly criticized an ICG report by Bryden, describing it as lacking in objectivity and as being “full of irrelevant legal arguments and precedents for the dismemberment of a homogeneous country of Somalia.”[17] The authors cite Bryden's regular attendance at functions supporting the recognition of Somaliland and suggest that he was involved in leaking his ICG report "to organizations and individuals working for the dismemberment of Somalia." In 2006, Mohamoud Oogle maintained that Bryden, who was then running a UN-funded project that was intended "to contribute towards the peace and reconciliation process" in Somalia, has instead "gone out of his way to hinder Somalia's recovery, unity and stability by pursuing non-project, anti-Somali agendas." Oogle, who charged that for Bryden the project was merely a "a cover-up for engaging in wider, anti-Somalia covert and overt activities," concluded that for Somalia, Bryden "is an enemy in disguise." ”[18]
An article in Somalia Report made additional accusations of a highly serious nature. On December 10, 2010, the Somaliland government announced "a mysterious plane containing weapons and mercenaries bound for Puntland" had made an emergency landing in Hargeisa and been seized by Somalialand authorities.[20] Bryden and other members of the UN Monitoring Group traveled to Hargeisa, purportedly to investigate the situation. According to eyewitnesses, Bryden, in conversation with two South African nationals who had been aboard the plane and who were being held captive by Somalialand authorities, threatened them "with serious consequences if they didn't cooperate" with him. It turned out that the two South Africans were, as they claimed, journalists heading to Puntland to report on an anti-piracy training program. It also turned out that the plane had not made an emergency landing but had been making a routine stop; that it had been carrying neither weapons nor mercenaries; and that Bryden, along with other UN officials, had previously been briefed on the anti-piracy program. In short, Somaliland officials had had “no legal reason to detain the aircraft and its passengers,” and Bryden knew that. What had happened, in fact, in Hargeisa on December 10, according to the Somalia Report, was “that the UN had deliberately sabotaged a well-funded, well-run, Somali-led, land based anti piracy program.” The clear implication here was that Bryden's support for an independent Somaliland had led him to involve himself and the UN in unlawful actions that were harmful to the cause of law and order in Somalia.[20]

The irony is, why did the UNSC allow someone with that agenda and background to serve as the Coordinator For UN Security Council's Monitoring Group? He is not an impartial observer, and he is using that office for the wrong reasons. The pressure to highlight his destructive activities should be maintained until the USNC hears it and removes him from that job completely.

Great piece by Abdul GhellehGrant wrote:http://wardheernews.com/Articles_12/Jul ... flict.html
Abdul Ghelleh blames Bryden and a small group of mostly Western expats living in Nairobi for fueling the conflict in Somalia over the past 21 years. Check out his reasons.
" In my researches in the early years of the conflict and occasionally at present, I blamed the Ethiopians for having their own national interest in the Somalia conflict. And increasingly recently I suspected the Saudis and their teachings of Wahabi Islam. Often I would debate with friends and even with myself about the reasons for the Ethiopians or the Saudis wanting to sustain the conflict in Somalia. Both are close to us; one being our immediate neighbour and the other, our favourite destination for Hajj, shopping and work.
This past fortnight however, I took far too closer look at Somalia, Ethiopia and the nearby Saudi Arabian peninsula. And when the bell did not ring in any of these places, I suddenly, like Albert Einstein discovering Matter and Energy, found a single Canadian culprit who strategically positioned himself in the suburbs of Nairobi, Kenya. I made a substantial discovery towards the conflict resolution programmes for Somalia.
I zeroed in my investigation to small group of mainly Western expats in Nairobi. But the person who is partly responsible for much of the chaos and the unrest in Somalia over the past 21 years is none other than Mr Matt Bryden from Toronto, Canada. He worked for the Brussels-based the International Crisis Group before joining the United Nations, and he is married to Ubah (her exact Somali family name unknown at the time of writing) who originally came from North-Western Somalia (Somaliland)."
It is true that Al-Shabaab, secessionist Somaliland, and Matt Bryden are obstacles to the restoration of peace and stability in Somalia. Truth is all three are connected!
