The notion of there being "no hope" does not exist in Islam, and it most certainly is not up to us humans, but to Allah. Do your best and have good intentions.
I'm always amazed at how humans who are -oft sinning- can easily dismiss and discourage other fellow humans from repenting because they think that person's sin is huge or unforgivable. At the end of the day, a sinner that is oft-repenting is ten-times better than one that does not repent and downgrades those who wish to leave their past behind. Humans are all sinners, and the best of them are those that repent. Focus on yourself, and don't let your small sins pile up to the point where a major sinner who repents is forgiven by Allah, while you end by being destroyed by the sins you saw as minor.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Beware of the minor sins which are often thought of as insignificant, for they are like a group of people who stopped in the bottom of a valley. One of them brought a stick, and another brought a stick, until they had gathered enough to cook their food. These minor sins, if a person is called to account for them, will destroy him. According to another report, he said: Beware of minor sins, for they will pile up until they destroy a person. (Ahmad; Sahih Al-Jaami’, 2686-2687)
This sounds encoureging. Jazza akkalaah.
