Taxation in Somaliland

Post by LiquidHYDROGEN »

How does it work? Given that we haven't developed the administrative tools to properly census and tax the population based on their income.

There is no taxation in Somalia except taxing goods entering the country through the ports.

You can't tax people's income back home, especially considering they make next to nothing anyway. It would piss off the locals and it wouldn't do much for the government's revenue.

What does the average household make, $100-$150 a month? They can barely survive off that.

Wow. The situation must be more dire than I thought. Tax is a cornerstone for development, without it, no government would be able to pay for half the stuff spends on. No wonder there's no infrastructure.

Abdi, some people dont even work marka what were you expecting :? no tax collected from people will be enough to build anything. For example i saw tax being collected at a market, 3kun once a week and even then not everyone was paying, not sure if SL currency is better but 3kun in xamar doesn't buy you shiit

There is no tax paid by the wealthy. In somaliland taxes are collected from the poor vendors "wadhato or shaari shaari" on daily bases , eatch day or other day a soldier is sent o hassale and harass old ladies. The rich big wigs , like Dahabshiil, Ina Xabri, Indho Deero, qaad dealers like 571 , ina Gufane , and most company and hotel owners don't pay a penny.

If they are forced to pay taxes they transfer the taxes to the people by hiking prices up, thats why eveymonth you hear price inflation, they manupilate the exchange rate sine they are allowed by the goverment to privatly exchange money. The system is fucked up, but few care to see the reality most of somalilanders are same as the people in this forum who ululate 24/7 and are intoxicated with boast and bragging about few pretty houses and Aid money projects. No people and no Damiir.

How is tax haram? Not everybody lives in an oil-rich state where everything is free. A portion of your wealth is gathered to use for the greater good. How do you think a government can pay for infrastructure, institutions such as health, military and education, as well as scientific innovation and development? By military conquest? :mindblown:

Perpetual war and conquest. I'm playing bro. A communist state could be set up for all I care. Anywhere where Somalis happen to be the majority will never succeed. Good luck.

Abdi do you mean income tax on individuals?

the day they institute this i will create my own rebel movement and ally with Khatuumo.

The great thing about our government is that though they have the same corrupt instincts as every other african kleptocracy, they are too weak to do what they dream about, the power the clans is too strong still.
This is the reason somaliland still has any development to speak of.
Now you need some government control to build and maintain public infrastructure but income tax, and aping other taxes we see in the world will not help.
Do you know that income tax became a permanent tax at the same time as the federal reserve was created in the US?
1913..

Instead of aping this destructive form of tax and handing too much power to our immature governments i suggest we copy the success stories that you dont hear about, that the bankers try to distract you from because it is against their interests.(i.e harder to take control of).

Land value Tax.
This is the secret of Japan, Taiwan, South Korea , Singapore , Malaysia and Hongkongs rise.
Its the reason Hongkong can finance massive infrastructure projects, and maintain a 10% tax on corporation since the 50's.

Our taxes should only be in the form of Land value tax for most of our income, supplemented by import tarrifs, and taxes on corporations.
Small businesses should be tax exempt, and to encourage cooperatives to grow as large as our large businesses they should be tax exempt as well.
it goes without saying , no income tax.

this is more than enough to provide upto 3-4 times the current government revenue without hurting growth.
