Alpha,

I had a bush growing near my house's garden back home. My 60 year old uncle stops at the bush and says to me, is this what I think it is. Much respect to him.

ALpha,

Where can I get hemp seeds ? I want to grow some and use it for feed. Does it make good charcoal ?

I don't know any particular site that sells it. I've never looked into it that far. But hemp makes good everything. Charcoal would be the last thing you want to use it for lol.

Seems a waste to just burn it, while you can use the oil as an immediate fuel source.

Alpha,

I want to save the acacia trees near my home village. We have a good supply of water and the soil is fertile. It is an oasis being encroached on by the sand dunes.

Plant more trees. Plant as many trees as you can. If you're not doing anything, get up and plant trees. There's only one way to battle desertification.

Hemp is stage two. We don't need trees for fuel, paper, charcoal. We only need them to grow our fruit and provide some shade. Hemp can be made into the products trees are often misused for, and then some. Food, fuel, clothing, building material.

Grow hemp.

Alpha,

What do you recommend as a fast growing tree that thrives in arid environments ? I also want to grow Nubian grass to make as hay.

I don't have an immediate answer for fast growing trees, but I might be able to ask someone who knows. Though I can only assume that it being the desert, 'fast growing' would be difficult to come by.

If you grow hemp, "waste" material like husks after pressing are far more nutritious than any grass. Hemp seeds can be milled into flour, oil, cereal and more. Heck, even unused fibers are more nutritious. I believe the use of hemp as feed will reduce unnecessary applications of hormones and antibiotics. Plus, it's hypoallergenic, where as grass isn't, making it for perfect bedding.

The whole world used hemp throughout history. Then something happened. Plastics, fuels, furniture, building material, animal feed, flours, oils, paper, and thousands of other products for the picking. I wish I had the resources to start a farm and factory. I wouldn't hesitate.
