facebook & privacy

Post by waryaa »

I had to open a new fb account yesterday in order to view some important fb pages. B4 I knew, almost everyone n my contact list requested for a friendship and they are all lined up waiting for my confirmation :(

That's privacy invasion in my books.

fyi, i was fb junkie a long time ago and it was not this intrusive as far as I remember

If you use your phone, contacts are sent requests. I believe it's the same with whatever email address you use.

When FB first started up, there weren't any of this incursion into privacy. Thankfully, I could never really get into FB.

One of the main reasons why I will shut down my FB account, theirs no such thing as privacy anymore, these folks have been asking for my phone number for a while now, in order to assure the sercurity of my account, I've been avioding it ever since, Just couple days ago I got call from someone on my FB, my immediate response was how did you get a hold of my digits, turns out it was already their on my FB page. FB must've got my number through one of my friends phone app.

alpha, yes.

rabshoole, tnx god i am not alone :)

tuushi, very easy: whn you open an account they ask you the permission to get your contact list from your email provider, hotmail in this case. If you say yes, then they will get your contacts and keep them in their database. Next time some1 from your contact list opens an account they will notify you instantly. I said "no" to the request but apparently fb had my friends/fam members' contact lists and they all got instant notification plus an offer to have me as their friend.

The other thing is that fb, google, hotmail, yahoo, etc. all share information on different levels. For instance, I was in a hurry when I opened this account yesterday and I forgot the password immediately. The next time i tried to login i clicked "forgot pw" and a new popup window said "since you have an active hotmail session from this browser there's no need to send you confirmation email, just put your new password here." Hotmail shared my session with fb in real time.

Not only FB but if I could get a way to live without the internet I would have been very productive and the quality of my life would have improved. :(
