Greening the Desert using Ocean Water - Mashallah
All it takes is pure sea water, commitment from the locals and input from technical experts. Mashallah ! Worth the 17 minutes to watch.

Rightwing,
No, with the right incentives and disincentives, the Somalis will be just as capable.

I looked into this project a few years ago, from what I could make out it failed and is no longer running.

It didn’t fail, it worked wonders. But due to political and security nature of Eritrea they had to leaveoriginal dervish wrote:I looked into this project a few years ago, from what I could make out it failed and is no longer running.

Stop the charcoal trade and replant trees to prevent desertification.

Kambuli,
You are making a sweeping generalization. I visited my relatives in Mudug who wallahi amazed me. They raise goats, sheep and also do small subsitenance farming of digir, watermelons, sorghum, tomatoes, onions off their small plots during the rainy season. These people work very hard from 5am to late at night. The only thing that they are lacking are modern farming techniques, appliances and veterninary care. If you don't work, you don't eat.
There are millons of SOmalis just like them who work very hard raising livestock, farming, and fishing. They live off their land and only need expertise, equipment and funds to boost production.
The people you are referring to are middle and upper class Somalis who can afford help not the rural ones who can't.

Yes, this can be done. Entire ecosystems have been restored in the States using something like this, but never heard of it being done with agriculture on this scale. My only question is when applied directly to agriculture, what are the effects on the water table on the dangers of using untreated seawater?
Environmental Science. Wish I had gone that route.
