How would the World look today without European colonization

Post by Cumar-Labasuul »

Ever wondered how our world would have looked today if the Europeans didn't colonize Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Before the europeans you had the turkish (ottomans), Omanis, Persians and long before them the Romans colonizing various regions, so colonialism always existed but it was the european colonization which shaped the countries today.
As for the question I think:

-Somalis would have had their camels grazing in Zimbabwe today
-USA, Canada, Australia, Mexico and all latina American countries wouldn't exist today
-There would be more clan based states i.e. hausa, fulani, tutsi etc
-We wouldn't have heard of Hollywood, Apple, McDonalds and all American corporations
-The natives of America would still be roaming around naked fighting in clan battles
-UN wouldn't exist more so just a European version

feel free to add more

I think humans would have achieved technological and industrial gains with or without the Europeans. The only difference would only have been the Chinese or another group of people would have paved the way.

elf,
I believe the europeans - during their golden period (1400-1900) - were technologically advanced but their land was limited so by colonizing other countries and gaining vast resources this aided the production of these techologies.
I also believe eastern asia has the potential as well but they slacked behind during this period I mentioned above.

Yes somalis would have reached that far down if not more. We (99% of somalis with the exclusion of the coastal minorities) are a people of nomads with no permenant settlement we roam free in search of fresh pastures for our camels.

Countries that do not have much natural resources/wealth usually develop other ways to gain some wealth. It's completely out of necessity.

Somalis would have only remained in their place while fighting over two dry wells and few she-camels. They are a triabilistic group which still lacks any sense or perception of world domination. A bunch of nomads who invested nothing into the land can not over-power a group of people who remained in one place, invested in it, and develop it over time.

Sxb, Somalis are not that new to the land we inhabit currently. I understand where you are coming from but agricultural societies are more likely to develop a civilization, governance, and gradually expand their territory and still maintaining control over it. Nomadic societies, do not have the ability to capture a territory and keep it. They just raid, take some few resources and leave. They are also less likely to invest or extract anything out of the land. Not to forget their limited ability to manufacture new wealth by using a combination of other various elements.

There is no point in roaming around if you can not build a civilization that can protect itself or contribute something to the world.

P.S. It's disrespectful to take a group of people and make it appear as if their "real" culture is one that is static in nature.

There is no such thing as "real white" people, so why should we limit the natural development of other societies to their ancestors? It's another way of saying these people do not change or develop over the course of time and it also presents a single narrative of their history.

No one takes a picture of cavemen and says "real europeans".

Those are Zulus. They moved into southern Africa from west and central Africa and settled in the eastern coast. The "real South Africans" are the Khoi Khoi and KhoiSan.
