Lying on your resume is required

Post by Brobaganda »

It's hard out there trying to find a good job, especially if you are a young person who just graduated. You'll be surprised to see junior positions that require around 3 years of experience. How are recent graduates suppose to get that many years of job experience? Job searches are the perfect Catch-22 situations: You can't get a job without experience but you can't get experience without a job. When I am talking about jobs, I am talking about employment related to your field and not something that is minimum wage. :D

I used to be honest about my resume until about a month and a half ago when I realized it wasn't taking me anywhere. My 3-semester work experience was "not enough". I started to lie. I didn't make it obvious but 75% was fabricated.

I made 1 fake work experience from out of the country, it being in the UAE and got a reference of someone who can "back me up" (a guy who I became friends with during undergraduate years) . This was from one of the larger global audit firms where the position related to consulting. Another two additional work experiences in the country I live, one being an foreign embassy and another being a local non-profit organization working in an administrative/book keeping capacity. These two were "volunteer" positions in case the employers track your employment history. Volunteers don't get paid and you are not in the alphabet boys system 8-)

Then there are the certifications. You might have always wanted to get your CPA,CMA or some other type of designation but just can't do it now for whatever reason. You don't want to put on your resume that you have a certain certificate you don't have in case they ask for proof. So, what you can do is write on your resume for example: Certified General Accountant, Candidate. :D. Just make sure you research before you lie. Some certifications require many years of experience so you don't want to say you are working towards or have a certain certificate if the requirement to obtain one is like 5 years of experience.

Lying about your qualifications is not shameful. Unfortunately, its required these days. You are either unqualified for the job or you are facing stiff competition. Don't hesitate to add some extra information if you find the job market in your city is not that great. The worst that can happen to you is that they will let you go if they find out the information you gave was not entirely accurate (and this is only if you get caught red-handed). You have nothing to lose. No jail time. No fines. Just a dismissal

Why did I share this information with you? Because the people that say you should never lie on your resume want you to fail. Also because lying has worked for me. I start on Monday

Lying about your qualifications? That is extreme.

The accepted limit is white lies about your extra curriculars. Lies eventually come out

What I don't understand is why people don't go out looking for interesting things to put on their CVs. There's so many things to get involved with in the community.

There is absolutely nothing extreme about lying about your qualifications. Obviously you shouldn't say you got like a PhD or worked as a manager. That is pushing it.

What is extreme is working at McDonalds with 30K student loan debt.

There is nothing interesting about community work. But it is good to have it on your CV. In the soup kitchen feeding the homeless or spending your Sundays at retirement homes talking to old people makes you sound like a great person. You don't have to do it though, just write it down. Make sure you have someone who works there though to back you up.

Nah not that kind of community work though it should be humbling and rewarding. Maxaan ka wada big-time-yet-trying-to-be-grassroot-charities, work with them to organize events, build your admin skills, team work, leadership that kind of thing.

And to be honest most times it's not what you did it's how well you sell what you've done. You could sell McDonald's experience better than someone who did an internship at Morgan Stanley.

I used to be an idealist like you my whole life. I can bet you all the most successful people in life are all realists, who don't play by the book and don't follow procedures and do things the honest way.

You must look at life as it actually appears in real life. When it comes to dealing with people in the outside dog-eat-dog world, you must go through great lengths to get what you want. The world is not what it appears to be. It is a nasty place that will hurt you and push you to the ground. Fight back... in this case, lying on your resume

I am a realist. I believe you get out what you put in, everyone gets what they deserve in the end.

Not saying you shouldn't be street smart but there's a thin line between being street smart and being an idiot who doesn't know when to stop.

You should not lie about your qualifications. that is big no no. But you got to be creative :) hmmm you know what that means ;)

i have no degree, my education stops at college level but get good jobs becuase i am creative, confident to do all those jobs that graduates cannot do.

i know couple of female somali graduates who work part-time for a somali community centre! they are like cold-fish.....

Why lie, when twisting the truth can get you a long way.

And the most important thing, your resume should stand out from the crowd!!

I always tell the truth in my resume, they laugh so hard at my honesty, and usually just hire me.

you finally get it, you not only have to lie on your resume you need to tailor your resume to the job you are targeting.
i use to have half a dozen different resumes, each one a little different.
