I used to be honest about my resume until about a month and a half ago when I realized it wasn't taking me anywhere. My 3-semester work experience was "not enough". I started to lie. I didn't make it obvious but 75% was fabricated.
I made 1 fake work experience from out of the country, it being in the UAE and got a reference of someone who can "back me up" (a guy who I became friends with during undergraduate years) . This was from one of the larger global audit firms where the position related to consulting. Another two additional work experiences in the country I live, one being an foreign embassy and another being a local non-profit organization working in an administrative/book keeping capacity. These two were "volunteer" positions in case the employers track your employment history. Volunteers don't get paid and you are not in the alphabet boys system
Then there are the certifications. You might have always wanted to get your CPA,CMA or some other type of designation but just can't do it now for whatever reason. You don't want to put on your resume that you have a certain certificate you don't have in case they ask for proof. So, what you can do is write on your resume for example: Certified General Accountant, Candidate.
Lying about your qualifications is not shameful. Unfortunately, its required these days. You are either unqualified for the job or you are facing stiff competition. Don't hesitate to add some extra information if you find the job market in your city is not that great. The worst that can happen to you is that they will let you go if they find out the information you gave was not entirely accurate (and this is only if you get caught red-handed). You have nothing to lose. No jail time. No fines. Just a dismissal
Why did I share this information with you? Because the people that say you should never lie on your resume want you to fail. Also because lying has worked for me. I start on Monday

you are right about the last part of the last sentence. You should stop when you realize someone can get physically hurt
