BTW tyhe majority of the people in Mali whether they are from the Nth or the Sth are muslim .
The current head of Ansar ad Dine, Iyad Ghali
is a legendary tuareg commander. He lead a number of Tuareg rebellions in Mali. read it up. He is just now fighting under a different flag.

Here he is negotiating with Malian government in Burkina Faso http://allafrica.com/stories/201208090304.html

Where do the 10,000 militants come from, out of thin air? :mindblown:

Alqaeda doesn't have C130 cargo ships to move fighters, these are indigenous folks who have a bone to grind with the current order in west africa.
You can say they are extremist, but they are still tuareg.

After the fall of the Gaddafi regime, thousands of former Gaddafi loyalists were Tuaregs, most of whom have returned to North Mali with heavy weaponry including missile surface to air weapons, technicals and hundreds and thousands of ammunition. These battle hardened soldiers empowered the Mujahideen and gave them alot of expertise as well. The Tuaregs are indeed a noble people. :blessed:

Sahal, these people know the Sahara inside and out and have plenty of places to base themselves, wallahi cadiim the French don't stand a chance. :dj:

That's exactly the problem , had he not aligned himself with al qacida , the tuareg would have had their country by now .
He turned his venom against his OWN cousins
This is the genuine Tuareg movement working for the interest of the tuareg people .

The MNLA are a group of toothless secular warlords who were evicted from both Timbuktu and other major cities after they turned on the Islamists.

Today they control nothing but a small border town near Algeria, they have been reduced to nothing.

Now they allied themselves with the French after facing defeat after defeat against the Islamists.
On 14 January, after the French intervention in the conflict had commenced, the MNLA declared it would fight alongside the French and even the Malian government to "end terrorism in Azawad"

are you unable to respond without resorting to insults?

"was" iyo "wasmo" iyo af musqul, waligay ma arag adoo qof ujawaabay aflagaado la.aaan

marka ninyahow sidaan isu dhaan, hadii kale waalnidaadi kusoco.

My predictions:
The French cannot afford to and fight a protracted war, they want to bomb them into bits and leave. To avoid this fate, the Malian insurgents, they will likely retreat from the cities with their forces intact and wait.
Time is on there side. The french then will likely declare victory after displacing hundreds of thousands of civilians with there firepower, only for the Islamist to return few months after they leave.
