Almost all of what I said about Waqaf I got it from the book written by his wife of over 30 years, before that was in school with him in Russia, and had three children with him and raised some of his siblings in their house in Mogadishu.
To the rest of you, hundred percent recommend it. Dr Hawa's story deserves to be heard by all Somalis especially Somali girls.

Why waste your money and time, its obvious this woman enjoyed Afweyne years " the champion of women's right" indeed, his soliders raped 25% of all somali women and his son and henchemen engaged in rape. probably this Xaawa missed those days. i would not buy such a book and if i came accross her book i'd use it as a toilet paper if the papers are the right soft material.ManD333q wrote:Thanks for sharing, I shall grab a copy of this when I have time.

Re: Just finished reading Dr Hawa Abdi's book Keeping Hope A
Honestly you are ignorant. Period.
And I will say this last time before unsuspecting people get a different impression than is the case.
Dr Hawa DID NOT benefit from Barre. She was in med school before his government came to power (and how she did was amazing). She also came back to the country in1971 and from the beginning did not like the government or the bureaucracy. Sh had few good things to say about the government---she even said the Somali national language act was a way to benefit uneducated member's of Barre's clan (something I vehemently disagree with). She did praise him on women's rights, social issues, cultural issues, minority issues, etc. It was a 21 year government, she blasted what she thought was bad and praised what she thought was good.
All that is a small analysis of that time. The bulk of her book concerns after 1991 to when Hisbul Islam tried to detain her fighting them off. She recounts daily struggles, the trajectory of the country, her work as a doctor, mother to Somali kids in a lawless society, etc.
For example, from the beginning her work was so powerful she was eecognized. George Bush came to Somalia in the early 90's and while Aidid and Ali Mahdi and their supporters were preparing for eithsr to be recognized. Bush helicoptered from the airport to Dr Hawa's compound which international agencies praised and then he flew to Baidoa. The warlords were not happy at the pesky upstage Aidid's group even ried to have her assassinated killing someone else in stead. You can see pictures of Dr Hawa in doctor's robes with President Bush and her father in law at her place.
It's stuff like that Dr Hawa recounts not rehashing old narratives and disagreements. Honestly when I think of thr frowned upon reer basdiye, I think the fudaydnimo you posted with.

X.Playa, I don't know who you are but your words seem to be rooted under the pillow of hatred and ignorance. If you were wise, you wouldn't have said such words. Dr. Hawa was saving the lives of thousands when you were nonchalantly arguing on Somalinet. She is a brave woman, stood up against all evil and built a hospital through her dedication and hard work. When the Hizbul Islam folks stormed her compound while being interviewed on BBC, what were you doing? Instead of blaming or saying ill of her work, what have you done for Somalia? In other words, what did the qabil you dearly admire do for you?X.Playa wrote:Why waste your money and time, its obvious this woman enjoyed Afweyne years " the champion of women's right" indeed, his soliders raped 25% of all somali women and his son and henchemen engaged in rape. probably this Xaawa missed those days. i would not buy such a book and if i came accross her book i'd use it as a toilet paper if the papers are the right soft material.ManD333q wrote:Thanks for sharing, I shall grab a copy of this when I have time.

This woman has done alot for so many poor people ilhay khair ha siiyo. And whether she enjoyed that time or not don't change the fact. And to be honest can you blame her for enjoying the peace as apposed to what came after that regime in her ends.X.Playa wrote:Why waste your money and time, its obvious this woman enjoyed Afweyne years " the champion of women's right" indeed, his soliders raped 25% of all somali women and his son and henchemen engaged in rape. probably this Xaawa missed those days. i would not buy such a book and if i came accross her book i'd use it as a toilet paper if the papers are the right soft material.ManD333q wrote:Thanks for sharing, I shall grab a copy of this when I have time.

Maandeeq,
Peace for who?? as far as i know people in somaliland were been daily excuted and tortured in prison ever since 1981 and Puntland from 1978-1982, so peace for who?? her? her people? her part of the country?? so according to this Xaawa if her part of town is doing good , then Afweyne regim was over all good?/ is that your logic too?

The only reason you and your clan like such a person and such analysis is because she praised your dictator and dengirated Aydid and the opposition that threw that vile monkey out of power and his welfare babies. Don't kid yourself Iam old enough to know your kind when your kind was in power.
women's right?? the man that delibertaly ordered his junta to rape the women of the opposing clan?? yea right, you and this Xaawa must have pulled this one from your arses.
Cultural issues like what?? turning the entire history of somalis into Daaroods??
waar fuckk off..man.

She might have helped alot of people but her praise of Afweyne is a big mistake and a disguesting rerwiting of history.

I will get the book seems like a person like her deserves the benefit of the doubt since she has done so much for Somalis in places like Ceelasha biyaha camps.
