The Institute of Parliamentary Studies (IPS) is hosting a delegation of Members of Parliament from the regional State of Puntland in Somalia for a one week exposure and study tour with the Parliament of Uganda.
The delegation comprising 15 Members of Parliament is comprised by the Rt.Hon. Speaker of Parliament of Puntland, the Deputy Speaker and Chairpersons of Committees, Staff of the Puntland Parliament and a support team from the National Democratic Institute.
According to Charles Biinwe the Coordinator of the Institute of Parliamentary Studies, the legislators from Puntland are in Uganda to study the Government and political system, Parliament’s policy making function and the representative role played by Parliamentarians.
The Uganda Institute of Parliamentary Studies was set up to improve the capacity of MPS and staff of Parliaments in the region through training. The Institute also equips local councils with legislative skills
The Institute also plans to retool them in matters of Parliamentary oversight, conduct of meetings and public hearings as well as the administration of Parliament.
The one week programme ends on May 10, 2013.
