You saw a shirt for $97
You didn't have the money so you borrowed $50 from your brother and $50 from your sister
$50 + $50 = $100
You bought the shirt and had $3 change
You gave your brother $1 and your sister $1 and kept the other $1 for yourself.
Now you owe your brother $49 and your sister $49.
$49 + $49 = $98 + Your $1 = $99
Where is the missing $1?
I am,
Abdi "Deeply Puzzled" Johnson

Re: Solve this problem
Different variations of this have been coming up for years
You owe your siblings: 49 + 49 = 98, This 98 = 97 (for shirt) + 1 (for yourself)
Siblings: 98 (you owe) + 2 (you already gave them) = 100

Siblings: 98 (you owe) + 2 (you already gave them) = 100

I don't see a missing dollar, just the wrong operator.AbdiJohnson wrote: $49 + $49 = $98 + Your $1 = $99
Correction: $49 + $49 = $98 - Your $1 = $97 (price of the shirt)

Re: Solve this problem
There is no missing dollar, it is an arithmetic illusion. Think of it this way;
The shirt costs 97 dollars and you keep 1 dollar. Therefore total borrowings from siblings = 98 dolllars. You give the siblings 1 dollar each from the original 100 dollars. This means you give them back 49 dollars each = 98 dollars you borrowed originally.

Just like the tip one. It's in how you look at it.
