Somalis used to be Habeshas, too - here's the facts

Post by Belew »

First I'd like to say Ramadan Kareem to all Somalis outthere.

WRONG: Habesha did not originally mean 'mixed people'; 'slave', 'Semitic speakers' or 'Ethiopia' (absurd). Habeshas original meant...drum rolls please, incense gatherers. Who were the original incense gatherers? That's right, the people of Zeila, Somalia, which is the original homeland of the Somalis before they migrated/expanded south and south west. In fact, the Arabs were very clear in naming Zeila as a land of Habeshas, long after the local inhabitants converted to Islam. For them, Habesha was a simple geographic term that originated from people who collected incense.

According to linguistic experts, Habesha derived from Merih language (Yemeni Semitic language) which means incense gatherers.

By the way it is not sure if the Arabs called Zeila biladul Xabash , but why would it be right , just because Arabs say it doesn't make it correct. The Hairy bastards had no clue about the Somali peninsula. Somalis have nothing to do with Xabash we do not speak Tigrinya Amharicna nor do we adhere a christian faith

Well, Habesha has nothing to do with Christianity. The original Habeshas were pagans living in Yemen (no they didn't migrate and mixed with Horn, that's just a false myth). Habesha simply meant insence gatherers. Anyone who collected incense was a Habesha. All these other meanings Habesha that Somalis and Ethiopians are familiar with came much later in history (most came in our modern time). If we are talking about the original Habeshas in the horn, then the people of Zelia, Somalia are among them. These people collected incense, therefore, they were undoubtedly Habesha.

Habesha originally meant incense gatherers, nothing more, nothing less.

Were not dirty Habeshis sorry. Somalis originated from Zeila or modern day Somaliland and emigrated further south over thousands of years of camel grazing. Our heroe ahmed Gurey devasted Habeshi empires and dominated Abbysinia

Yeah guray is right it was called Xabashat is a a group who lived in southern Yemen

I think Belew is an Eritrean tribe Belew kelew

Belew is right Xabashi is not an ethnic group but its mostly associated with Ethiopian highlanders and Eritrean highlanders.

Zeila in Somaliland had Arab Somali rulers during Walashma and Adal there were also afars living there and extinct other Somali clans. So it very strange to associate Zeila with Xabashi.
