right now the main reason they are against somaliland is because of envy and spite.
This makes reconcilation harder, a hard fought recognition after fierce resistance from the south will mean enemies for decades.
a friendly settling of affairs leaves the door open for the dream of Somaliweyn in the future.

Grandpa the solution to unity lies in south not north when the federal governments attains full control over somalia atleast from galkacyo to kismayo
with fully functioning institutions then and only then can we propose Somaliland and pop the question ( dear somaliland would you marry me again)
miss somaliland seeing how Faarax Somalia got his life in order and quit drugs and violence, being in shape for the first time in a long time she wont

Your right there are many disingenuous unionists who only want to drive their tribal interest by feigning unity, be ware of those for they are snakes that are prepared to strike.

Unity can never be achieved as long as the hearts hold that envy, jealousy, arrogance and hatred.

Guray even when recognition is achieved i doubt we would be very close to Somalia politically , many Somalilanders like you believe when Somaliland is recognized a natural union like that of the European union can be achieved with the same currency with the same passport with stronger ties and Somali solidarity, with the same defense policy but this will not happen , i believe when recognition is eventually achieved. the Hostilities will not cease. By the way Somaliland economy will always be more tied with Ethiopia and Southern Yemen, than with Somalia. So there is nothing we could share with the walanweyns really.

I know that gacanyare is mintid, a militant secessionist. He would kill his own brother if his brother embraced Unity.
However i have other suggestion:
Lets have UAE model.
The Ameer of USE(United Somali Emirates/Lands) will be picked every 5 years, and it will be makruh in the constitution to have the same clan as president every 5 years.

i disagree if the recognition comes peacefully then we will gravitate towards each other because we share language, culture and religion.

The UAE is actually not too bad an idea, it is closer to a confederation than a federation.
emirates have more power than US states, Or canadian provinces .
and Dubai had its own armed forces from union in 1971 till 1991.

Gurey in case unity is achieved once more what kind of model would you prefer, a complete integration or one where we still keep distance

I doubt there will always be the Puntland border conflict , lets for example say a Puntlander takes Somalia in a coup , and there is a conflict around the border, it can escalate. I dont think recognition will come peacefully it will come after allot of mediation allot of bitter talks , And Somalilanders will always remember how hard the walanweyns made it for them. Trust me there will be more closely tied relations with Djibouti the Kilil 5 Somali region and the Somalis in Kenya.. Somalilanders would totally skip and ignore Somalia. Guray just take for example Eritrea and Ethiopia. the Tigray Ethiopians are very close linguistically culturally religiously to the Eritreans. Yet they fought a deadly border war and remember they agreed in 1991 to go their separate ways as brothers and Eritrea even had the Ethiopian currency up to 1998. So i doubt it that because we speak the same language and culture and religion we can live side by side in peace and cooperate.

it will take a generation to develop full trust, so separate armed forces will have to be kept.
there are historic examples, dubai in the UAE till 1991, and all the german states in the German Empire when they united.
The armies were only unified in the middle of world war 1. till then bavaria had its own army, prussia its own, saxony its own, etc etc.

currencies union is not important but free trade and removal of tarrif is .
unified currencies help international bankers than the individual countries.
