He was wounded by a couple of gunshots, one of which hit his liver a week before his death. The liver eventually became infected and the Italian doctors operated on him. He died of a heart attack during that operation.jamal9 wrote:The Wikipedia says he died of heart attack. Seems someone is trying to downplay the cause of his death.Marques wrote: There's only so much your subclan can do to help you. In the end they won't muster up a pound to save you. Siad Barre was left to die in Nigeria when his clan couldn't help him back to Villa Somalia. Aideed was shot by his own clan. Abdullahi Yusuf couldn't even visit his home region in his last few years. Sharif will be sliced by Abgaal Shabaab militia if he touches down. Qabyaaladu waa sida qofka harkiisa...gadaashaa ayuu kaa daba maraa markaad raacdaysidna wuu kaa cararaya..

which hg did xawadle massacred?AbdiWahab252 wrote:What did the UN intervention accomplish besides prolonging the conflict for another decade ? GeoSeven,
The Xawadle were informants and had an ax to grind. Its just the way it was. The massacre of Beletweyne crossed the line. Caydiid was opposed to Caato's intervention even though the majority of HG refused to stand idle as HG civilians were being hacked and mutiliated. As for the Murusade, they too were sympathetic to the UN. Either way, they did not favor a strong Hiiraab outcome be it Abgaal or HG. They were key in prolonging the Mahdi Caydiid conflict.
Gabre,
Durant forgets to mention that his July 12 operation which massacred all of Caydiid's HG opponents was the greatest contributing factor to swing power in Caydiid's favor. If those men were not massacred by Durant & Co, they most likely would have removed Caydiid.

Abdiwahab, honestly man, anywhere outside of Hiiraan and Xamar outside of Abgaal and Hawaadle control became a hunt-a-Hawadle playground for all the militias allied to Aidiid. In Kismaayo, the Hawadle militia found themselves facing HG and their new allies the SPM-Ogaden. Imagine the Ogaden given the green light to go at Hawadle? It was like a dream come true for them. Hostilities occurred on both ends but you cannot honestly tell me that HG suffered worse. If 10k HG got it bad in B/Weyne, what happened to the 70k Hawaadle in South Muqdisho? When the first round of fights happened between HG and Abgaal, Hawaadle positioned themselves between the two and lost men when they stopped the fight. You cannot say they were biased in their dealings with either side. Aidiid had the worst advisers and yes he didn't do a good job of controlling them because shit hit the fan between Hg/Hwdl when he left and he was against the fighting. Hawaadle might have acted arrogant and unpolitical but it was the voice of reason in Xamar. Their Calina Gar-leh, Ceydiidna Gar-leh philosphy would have solved things had they not been bloodied.AbdiWahab252 wrote:Geoseven,GeoSeven wrote:They weren't informants, they worked with the UN because they were the 3rd force in Xamar and their neutrality was confirmed. The UN didn't want to take sides. HG lived in B/Weyne in huge numbers and yes, a large business community. I also heard they owned the majority of businesses because they were more enterprising. Lots and lots of HG were killed unjustly in Hiiraan but the Hawadle in HG controlled areas of Xamar didn't fair any better if not worse off.
Dude, the guy who set the coordinates for the Olympic Hotel raid was Xawadle. The Xawadle were well represented and to be honest were the most favored Hawiye more than the HG by Caydiid. He gave them much more leeway than his own Sacad. Do you know that when President Museveni came to Xamar in 1992 it was the Xawadle who refused Caydiid to see him off at the airport even when the HG militia were ready to take it over ? At another junction, they set up a road block to prevent Caydiid from using that road and he took a detour rather than fighting his most loyal Hawiye clan. He had great respect and admiration for the Xawadle especially as they were one of the first Hawiye clans to join the USC and provided a base of operations in Mustaxiil. Yet what happened in Beledweyne could not be compared to any grievances between the Xawadle and HG in Xamar. If HG took the same pound of flesh, the Xawadle would have not been in Xamar.
And unlike most, I am not afraid to admit the mistakes of my HG clan. The HG had their excesses some more than others. There you heard me right, some of the HG were focking apes whom I always felt needed to be put in line early on but Caydiid was a softie too much of one. If he started within our quarters, he would have been the undisputed champion.

AW! the reason Hawadle was the most loyal hawiye allies to Caydiid is because of USC were Hawadle Project! because Siad barre settled OG's in there backyards! the sinlge clan who almost 100% joined USC were hawadle! the forces who entered gedo and mandheera were majority hawadle. my own abti was there

Titanium,
What Italian doctors ? His operation was carried out by Somali surgeons. My uncle who is a surgeon warrned against the operating on the General until his BP stabilized. He refused to be evacuated to Kenya to be operated on because he did not want to become yet another leader who died in exile. He took a risk and died but we all die so might as well die at home than in a foreign land.
Geoseven,
Listen saaxib, I am not going to deny that incidents may have taken place but Caydiid's favorite tribe in Hawiye were Xawadle. Its not only him even Abdullahi Isse Maxamud was a fan. The Xawadle also did commit their share of crimes. Caydiid had such high regard for Xawadle that he nominated Cumar Hashi to attend the 1991 Djibouti talks on his behalf. Cumar Hashi betrayed Caydiid and endorsed Cali Mahdi's Presidency.
When it all boils down, the only other Hawiye clan who stood up consistently for Hawiye through out the decades were the Xawadle. It was no other than Halyeey Sheik Ali Jimcaale who foretold what was going to happen to Somalia in 1991 way back just before independence. When he saw that Abdullahi Isse Maxamud was cheated out of running for President on an age technicality he knew that the era of Hawiye being swindled was in full effect.

I won't deny it, Hawaadle savagery tends to get out of hand all the time. HG and Hwdl were as close as any two clans could get prior to what unfolded. That was in the past, there's a clean slate and Hawiye animosity is at an all time low. They can work on it and put the madness of the 90s at bay, or they can bicker.
